Be careful it does take quite a lot of stuff to reduce a flash by
1 stop. From memory last time I tried with a flash meter it needed
a double thickness of a cotton handkerchief
Kitchen towel or polystyrene plates should work as well.

reduce the flash power by adding a diffuser in front of the flash Plain tissue or cigarette papers work well & can be stacked if required for greater effect.
