Monitor connections

As so many monitors and graphics cards have various connections, which one to use for image editing. Choices are usually VGA, DVI and HDMI? At present I have a dual monitor set up as one screen running from a graphics card with two DVI sockets and tend to use one side for editing and the other for loading help files etc.

We have dual monitor setups at work. VGA is plainly inferior on PCs with vga and dvi. Ideally you want 2 dvi or hdmi. Vga is analog the others are digital.

DVI and HDMI are both digital and in terms of image - both do pretty much the same excellent job - but max resolution depends on the equipment not just the connection or cable.

HDMI generally can carry audio signals as well where as DVI usually (but not always) does not.

VGA is capable of fairly high image resolution but as it is analog - will not be as pixel accurate as a digital connection with an LCD monitor - although in 'real world' not easy to always spot a difference.

So for image editing using LCD monitors - DVI should be perfect.

Thanks for the responses. As said above I use the DVI connectors on my graphics card. Don't play action games so what I have seems adequate.
