Vanishing Posts

I submitted two posts early this morning, one under Your Photos (Protest Girl) and the other under the Fortnightly Competition to thank Martin and congratulate Prieni.

Both have vanished

Has anyone else had a problem of vanishing posts :

I posted in the very early hours this morning and it still is there.

Very occasionally I write a post, get distracted and forget to press Add Comment. Is this a possibility?

I will check now to see if has been deleted.
Best regards, John

I can confirm that the post was never made. It might have failed before it was entered into the site database.

I think this is called: " Having a grey moment".
It happens to me all the time.

Martin.

The 'Protest Girl' thread is still there but Hyram's response within that thread is not.

I use 2 computers to access this forum on one I checked 'remember me' when I logged in so donot need to log in and have no problem posting. On the other I have not checked 'remember me' and find that if I take a long time composing a posting then my session has timed out and the system no longer knows that I am logged in and when I click the 'add comment' button my post is 'lost somewhere in cyberspace' as only logged in members can post.

Have been caught a few times so I now save my posting in the cut and paste buffer before hitting the 'add comment' button (Control+A to select all of the text I'm writing, then Control+Insert to put it into the Cut and Paste buffer). Then if my post dosn't appear at the end of the thread I log in again and retype my comment by pasting from the Cut and Paste buffer (Shift+Insert) before pressing the 'add comment' button. [keystrokes are for PC]

Always works the second time so I've just put it down to login timeouts...
Good luck

Well I don't think that I was "having a grey moment" and the log-in timeout seems a likely explanation

Yes, it was by me, and I have seen my post, oh, well, posted, but when I came back some minutes later it disappeared, so I reposted.

how interesting, I didn't know those keystrokes and was just about to assume you were using a mac and post the PC ones I use, Ctrl+C = copy and Ctrl+V = paste.

Just tried it and you're absolutely right, your key combos work too! learn something new everyday
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

Mongoose: these shortcuts date before MS Windows, I'm not sure but I think that Ctrl-[C | V | X] were introduced (at least in PCs) with MS Windows. I remember using Ctrl / Shift + Ins at univ learning programming and it was a text environment.

My missing post asked the OP if he had photographed the armoured car that some protesters had driven into London on that day.

Perhaps all our posts our monitored by some secretive government department
