A UV filter will be a good idea at any time to help protect the lens.
Also a Polarizing Filter will also come in handy as it's a sunny country.

Yes it will always do harm if you see it is another point.
Just watch out for flares.

A uv/skylight filter will have no photographic effect, it will not protect the lens since this flimsy and fragile piece of glass will break with an impact that wouldn't damage the front element. The resulting shards of glass will damage your lens.

A CPL and a hood are essential, especially the hood, no matter where you are photographing.

Assuming that you’re not going to be taking photographs in bars or at parties or BBQ's where drinks and food tend to be airborne at some point or other, (been there and done it). It's a lot easier to clean a filter than the front of a lens.

You just need to hope that your CPL does not take an impact?

Each filter adds two air-to-glass surfaces to the image path and each surface is a potential source of image-degrading flare. When I shot full-time I kept a UV filter on every lens unless I was using another filter but I also use a lens hood on every lens (except my fisheye) ALL the time.

A UV filter can protect against dirt and damage to the lens' front element but IMO a hood is essential.

I fail to see the difference...
