Pumpernickel bread with eggs over-easy eyes, sausage lips, hash brown hair and strawberry nose. The boy is an atriste, what can I say? I just helped him, to make sure he didn't get burned!
looks like Squidward Tentacles with a bad hairpeice!

Yesterday I met an LA Film maker/Director.
Having done a shoot for a Filmtraining Manitoba seminar. I worked with two teams of actors and directors, do film two scenes.
Well, an LA producer described two shots from two different scenes I shot as "Iconic" ... I had really good teams with very creative, talented people. What fun. What a talented bunch of people I had to work with.

Don, I'm about to shoot a commercial/promo for for a new range of American hair products. I've decided to use a K5 since everbody else uses Canon EOS.
I dont know yet what editing platform we'll use but do I need any Pentax codecs or are the files easily recognisable?

You are on a mac?

When I shot my first video on the KR my mac did not show it. One older codec in my system was to blame. I had to rename the folder holding the codecs and create a new folder with the original namee, and start adding back my needed codecs one by one until I got everything working.... I have perian, vlc, and flipfor mac as well as quicktime.. so it didn't take long to fix. it was an older obsolete codec installed by a VJ program that caused the error, i believe... most people never have problem, so you'll probably be fine right out of the box..
here is my work flow:
I import into Aperture and from there to imovie for fast edits.... or into finalcut for serious edits.
just remember that shooting video on a d-slr is like shooting j-peg on a d-slr...(there is no RAW video recording) get it right in camera....with the exposure and color....
I also recommend, you use two bodies for longer shoots... these suckers heat up and need to cool off between takes... keep the takes under ten minutes each and let each camera cool for ten minutes between shots, and you will NEVER bump into some of the overheating issues...
and video eats batteries, have extras ready.
My method is to use a hard drive or solid state cam for the long takes and the d-slr for b-roll then use the audio waves to sync all the footage in post then start subtracting everything I don't want from the video layers... at little cumbersome, but it works.

Thanks Don, I won't edit myself - other people have far greater skills than me in that area!
It will either be on a Mac with FCP or an older Avid system. I just know that introducing Pentax originated media for the first time will bring up some issues. Could you email me a Pentax 5 second clip of anything for trial purposes?
I've arranged to hire the body and lenses I don't have from Chris at SRS. I'm getting quite excited about shooting with a DSLR for the first time. Professional Photographer magazine this month has several very good articles on 'convergance'.

Gartmore, I sent you a link, it should be uploaded within the next half hour (99mb)
also I highly recommend when shooting with the d-slr, that you focus on the lenses and shots that cannot be easily or cheaply done on video cams..
shallow dof, ulta wide or fisheye, low light , water/rain spray etc......
all the things your pentax can do that a typical video shooter can't or won't do....

As some of you know, I have just built a new studio and have been filming the build.
I will be releasing videos on my youtube Channel.
I was wondering how people felt about helping me out a bit?
I'd like to open up this thread for ideas, and or requests for "how to" episodes that I could then film.
keep in mind that I cannot answer every request, and I'm looking to make some fun and affordable how to videos.
Do you guys think you can help me out?
