Getting my (belated) birthday present tomorrow.

If I'm not on here by early next week, you know something went seriously wrong

Birthday was in August, but this was the nearest weekend I could book.

You can't get much more Scottish than a rusty nail

Sorry, but a Rusty Nail is not Scottish

Mixing Scotch with Drambuie is just a waste, and was probably thought up by some 'Lowlander' that couldn't appreciate a good whisky.

Apparently the idea of mixing Scotch with Drambuie originated in New York in the 30's.

A much better idea than disguising vodka with orange juice

There are only four cocktails worth drinking (IMHO!):

G&T (obviously) made always with Schweppes tonic,
A really dry Martini, but only as an aperitif,
Bloody Mary, made with unsweetened tomato juice.
Champagne cocktail, but only if made with Champagne.

Daiquiris, of course, are another matter altogether, but don't taste the same outside the Caribbean.

Anyone who mixes Scotch with anything other than spring water is a Philistine.

Bourbon and similar stuff, on the other hand, need to be mixed, preferably at a ratio of a hundred of whatever to one of whiskey. Useful chiefly for serving to friends whom you don't want to see again.
