I once bought a Canon 70-200mm L IS f4 on Ebay that was described as faulty. Apparently the seller had sold his camera body and then the lens but it was returned because it wouldn't focus on anything in close range. Obviously he couldn't test it so took the buyers word and put it on Ebay as not working with a best offer option.

I took a gamble, made a silly offer as I thought Canon could probably fix it and he accepted. When it arrived I simply pushed the focus limiter switch to the correct position and all was fine.
No equipment list here but thanks for taking an interest. My Flickr

That's cool!
Agreed about quick release tripod mounts. Seems each manufacturer to their own! I suppose if one has a broken tripod, but still have the QR mount it might be worth getting that tripod. Not much point otherwise. I wonder where all the old QR mounts go?!

So it is! It can be a pain where characters get changed into smilies, maybe I should just learn to use brackets less, but I'm sure they'd still manage to mix up messages....

See what Jean Poitiers got for 25 in France - a DA 55-300 F4.5-5.8 ED WR post #10452 in virtually new/mint condition

Got to be pretty much the find of the Century - or at least 2017!
K-3 II, K-3, K-5 & K-30, & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

I must persuade myself to go to a few car boot sales (if I can get up in time) - but I somehow doubt that I will find anything "interesting" (in the context of this thread)

Last year I bought a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 with an old film camera for 25. Both work perfectly and are in excellent condition.

It wasn't a K mount unfortunately, which meant I had to start buying more Canon (film) gear. Obviously there was no other option

Mine's somewhere in Chester, between the multi-storey car park on Pepper Street and the bridge at the bottom of Lower Bridge Street. Or it was, anyway. That was in 2010, so it's probably not there any more.

Ha, strange place to leave it! I usually leave it on the camera so I know where it is. I was fortunate with my Manfrotto, it had two QR's in the box! Suppose someone else must have gone without. I also purchased a spare one for my old Slik while they were still current.

I was able to get one - this was just around the time of the tsunami that affected a lot of photography-related companies in Japan, which was the reason that Jessops gave for not being able to get one after three weeks of trying, as if they were going to send off to Japan for one little accessory.

Found an MG with a 50mm f/1.7 for a fiver a couple of years ago. Lens fine but body doesn't always cock the shutter. Think it just needs a drop of strategically placed oil.
