Updating firmware

Hi all,
I have a K5II with firmware version 1.00 and want to update to the latest, v.1.04.
I've read the Ricoh instructions on how to do this but am still a bit confused.
I want to copy the new firmware onto the SD card via the camera but am unsure as to whether my understanding is correct in that I can start the process at step 6. i.e empty formatted card and full battery in the camera, hook up to the computer, switch on camera while pressing the MENU button and then click 'download' for the appropriate file on the computer.
Is that correct?

FIRMWARE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Provide a formatted SD memory card for the update software.
2. The download file is self-extracting. The following file is extracted.
- [K-5II] Fwdc216b.bin: This is the updated firmware.
- [K-5IIs] Fwdc218b.bin: This is the updated firmware.
3. Copy the above Firmware file [fwdc216b.bin] or [fwdc218b.bin] to the root directory in the SD card.
- If your computer does not have a card slot, you can copy the firmware update file by inserting the SD card into your camera and then connecting the camera directly to your computer.
4. Insert the the D-LI90 battery into the camera and confirm the battery is full by battery level indicator then turn the camera off.
5. Insert the update SD card (prepared in step 1) into the camera and close card cover.
6. Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button.
- "NOW LOADING" appears in the LCD monitor, and will change to the "PROGRAM UPDATE".
- At the bottom of the LCD monitor, CURRENT VERSION 1.00, UPDATE VERSION 1.01 will be displayed.
7. Press the four-way controller to select "YES" and press the "OK" button.
- "UPDATING" appears on the LCD monitor and updating starts.
- Please do not under any circumstances switch off the power before the update is completed.
- It will take approximately 150 seconds to complete update.
- When update is completed, the "COMPLETE" will be displayed at the left bottom of the LCD monitor, then turn the camera off.
8. Remove the update SD card from the camera.
9. To check the Firmware version in your camera, turn the camera on while pressing the MENU button.
10. Check that the version displayed in the LCD monitor is "Ver.1.01"
- The camera automatically starts up after about 5 seconds

There are two distinct steps in the firmware upgrade process.

One: get the .bin file on the SD card
Two: power up the camera while holding MENU

For you, without an SD card reader, step one involves powering up the camera normally, hooking to the PC, and copying the .bin file to the root of the camera's SD card (i.e. NOT under the DCIM directory, but at the same level as the DCIM directory)

Once you've copied the file over you can do the step Two

When you power up holding the MENU button you will find the camera cannot be seen by the PC.

Next step is to buy yourself an SD card adapter preferably one which supports SDHC.

Yeah it can be a nerve-wracking time for sure. You start that process and then sit back and hope! I've had a few where it appears to hang afterwards and there are some nervous moments when you power it down and back up. They've always come right for me though, but those few times where it doesn't appear to respond are scary.
