I would like to send a working older (1960's) Pentax 35mm SLR with lens to a friend in UK as a gift.
It is in nice but not collector condition; £50 claimed value would probably seem reasonable.
Typically will recipient be required to pay duty, VAT or other charges on something like this?
If so how much? I do not wish to send a gift with burdensome charges associated.
TIA,

I think £38 is the correct value for your gift. See here https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty

Is there anything to pay if its a gift?
Could you just put nominal value on it?

Above £39 you pay VAT on the whole value.
