trophies

Having come top in our club's Digital Image league for the past two years, somehow the club Committee cannot find the appropriate club trophy for my sideboard and do not seem inclined to address this shortcoming.

Can anyone suggest a source of appropriate trophies for photographic achievements. I am inclined to embarrass the Committee by purchasing such a trophy.

I would have thought a quality photo frame to suit the winning picture, with a small inscription affixed to it, would be better than a trophy (so vulgar).

Try typing "trophies direct" into Google. That gives you plenty of options!

I'm reminded of the Assassins Guild in the Discworld books, where the hall of fame has statues of the victims of alumni with increasingly tiny and discreet engraved plaques carrying the name of the assassin who "inhumed" them!

Seriously, my suggestion would be that photo clubs wanting to hand out trophies should organise for the winning image to be professionally printed and framed with a little engraved plate showing title, what competition it won, and the photographer's name.

The digital Image league is won with the most points scored over 6 competitions. There is no winning picture as such.
I was hoping that there was somewhere that produced trophies applicable to photographers. There are plenty of cups, glass plaques and such that I can source locally.
I just wanted it to be something to encourage the Committee to pull their socks up and realise that they have a responsibility to produce a trophy.
There were seven cups awarded at the Annual Prizegiving on Wednesday and I simply received a hand shake, even though they knew from last year when I won that they could not find the relevant cup then and it was simply another handshake.
Just hoping someone can give me a direction.

Maybe change your club... I am still a member of a UK club, and they have nice shiny trophies....

I have, obviously considered changing clubs but that would mean leaving a considerable number of fellow photographers who are real friends. It's the c ommittee I am aimi ng to wake up.

Why not donate a digital photo frame filled with your pictures?

Ken. Yes I could, but I would prefer to do as I have planned. There are lots of things I could do but the more positive response is this trophy. It would gee up the committee and ensure there is a trophy for next year.
I just need to find the darn thing. There is a site in the US that does a speciality for photography but it's a bit too tacky for my needs.
There must be somewhere but I cannot find it on the Net.

Surely the clubs competition secretary should have records of who last won the trophy before you?

Most of my Clubs trophies are silver and I couldn't even begin to fathom how anyone could "misplace" one, or how a committee could'nt be bothered about it, I wonder what they'd say if the digital projector went missing.

Not so sure about a new trophy I think you need a new committee

Revisiting my previous slightly flippant post, why not donate a digital photo frame with an engraved panel on it for your and subsequent winners names - a useful 21st C trophy?

Why not go to a car boot sale or charity shop, buy an old film camera for 50p-£1 (doesn't matter if it works), spray it gold and stick it on a plinth? You could have a space underneath to engrave names and you'll have a unique trophy.

Good one Hefty. Might just offend the brand loyalty members. Will give it some thought.

As far as records go. Three years ago I had an up and down fight with the Committee because there was no Inventry of anything that the Club owned.
I suggested a Trophy Record book. All cups to be photographed and a separate page given to each with a year date, Winner, winners signature and a committe signature on its return.
Not difficult, you would say. Just this last month following another fight with the committee chairman has this now been done.
Yes! We know who had the cup. At least, I told the committee who had the cup. He claims he does not have it!!
The club is over sixty years old. Has had the same chairman for twenty years and the same President from almost its inception. It just has not moved with the times and only now is grasping that ther Rules for competitions need to be revised.
Apart from that it is a good club and a lot of friendly members.

Thanks for all your interest.
regards Thoramay.

Why not get elected on to the committee, and fight from the inside.

Try and find something like an Ilford Sporti - plenty of broken ones around for pennies, it has a very typical camera-like shape and I can't imagine anyone getting too brand-conscious about a fifty year old Ilford point and shoot.
