Trojons on SD Card

Hi, I have a SanDisk Extreme lll, 4BG SD card and have only ever had it in my K20 or in the machine at my local photo shop where I go to get my photos developed...last time I was at the photo shop they had problems opening up some of the images and said that they thought the card had a virus...I have just put the card into my friends computer and it has told me that the card has two Trojons on it...first question is, where would the card have picked up these Trojons and could the photo shop have infected my card...secondly, can I get the viruses removed from the card or is it better to bin it and get a new one.
Very upset as I thought I could trust photo shops to have all the up to date virus control on their machines..all help and advice appreciated.

Formatting the card in the K20D should remove everything on there. I doubt a virus could survive that as it wouldn't be written to combat a format in a DSLR.

Simply formatting the card will do the trick since the trojan is in a file on your card.

You could have basicly pick it up everywhere.

Ok thanks for the advice...would I have got this virus from the photo shop seeing as I haven't put this card in any other machine other than theirs?

Yes, the digital photo machines at a place like Boots are just normal PCs covered in a kiosk-style box. So you probably got the trojan there.

If it has only ever been in your K20D and their machine thenyes, it's the only place it could have come from. You don't do any type of processing on your own PC before having the pictures printed?

I don't own a PC let alone use one to do processing ...only use my friends to use this great site for help and advice ..it was he who said to try it in his PC to see why the photo shop was having such difficulties opening the images up, so we did and it immediately said that the card had two Trojons on it ...the SD card has never been into a PC, just my K20D and the same photo shop machine it always goes in every few weeks to have the photos developed.

This was a Kodak photo shop so I thought they would be better than Boots or Tescos etc...how wrong I was

Another question...how do I stop this happening again...change photo shops or format the SD card more often...if so how often?

Or, if I get my friend to transfer the photos onto disc first, would there still be a chance of the disc becoming infected with a virus if I take that into the photo shop?

That would be safer, as CD wouldn't be able to be infected in the machine. But it would be a bit of a pain in the backside to burn a CD every time!

Or you could just reformat the card every time you get it back from the photo shop. That will probably be safe enough, but you never know if the trojan is damaging the files as soon as they are opened on the photo machine. If it is then formatting each time won't help.

Why not use the switch on the card to set it to read only when you take it out of the camera? Just remember to switch it back before using it in the camera

It's a good idea and will probably work I would still be slightly wary though. Back in the dark ages 5.25" floppy disks used a notch system to prevent accidental overwriting (open notch = writing allowed, covered notch = writing forbidden), but you could buy disk drives which would ignore the notch and overwrite anyway.
