To grip or not?

The thought of adding extra bulk to my rucksack has always put me off, however I always carry spare batteries with me and never need them. Although to be fair I have never tried a grip, I may have a different view if I did.

Tried the K20D without the grip again. Didn't like it. Grip back on.

New to the forum - just upgraded from a Samsung Gx-10 to Pentax K-5
Can anyone confirm if the Ebay grip mentioned above will fit the K-5?

I got my grip ALWAYS on my camera. In my opinion and for me it makes the camera easier to handle and to hold as I got large hands.
I rarely use the controls on the grip but they come in handy when shooting in portrait, but this is purely my opinion and people with smaller hands or like a smaller (lighter?) camera may well see it different.
On this one I would say it is everyone for him/herself as there will not be a blanket "one fits all" answer.

The grip will fit but you will be missing the weather seal. Also some mentioned that the controls are a bit flimsy.
You also may have to clean the contact first for proper connection.
I got the original at the end as the weather seal is of importance for me.

The K20 grip (DBG-2) is slightly different and does not quite fit the Samsung Gx-10, and they will not fit the K-5, you need the DBG-4 grip for the K-5.

Always on my K20...for all lenses,just makes it so much more comfortable to handle!

You obviously need the grip that is allocated to the camera in question. I thought of the eBay grip more as of a general question rather then trying to fit a grip that is not made for the camera that it is intended for.The K20 grip (DBG-2) is slightly different and does not quite fit the Samsung Gx-10, and they will not fit the K-5, you need the DBG-4 grip for the K-5.

I have no choice but to use the grip on the K-7 when using my manfrotto pano head, which was obviously designed with larger DSLR's in mind as the lens entrance pupil (nodal pt) won't sit over the central axis without the grip on!

My grip never comes off my K7, I just use the battery in the grip and carry a spare in my bag.
My Samsung GX10 now feels 'strange' as it's not gripped, and I'll have to stay that way unless a secondhand one comes along.

Definitely no grip for me. One of the reasons I went with Pentax to begin with was a smaller camera. If I wanted a massive camera I would have bought a more popular brand
When I upgraded from the K100Ds to the K20D i was gutted when I discovered the K20 was so much larger and heavier than the K100Ds. Thankfully the K5 has shrunk back to almost K100D size.

The only thing that appeals about the grip is the ability to use AA batteries. Although since I discovered non-OEM batteries are so cheap, I'm not so worried even about that...
