Guys this is getting way out of hand - isn't it about time common sense prevailed?

What started out as genuine concerns being expressed is fast degenrating in to a free for all and helping nobody!
The point being! a forum member has a grudge with JR for something/a ban (I don't actually know and I'm guessing but seem to have hit a raw nerve) that may well actually be well founded. JR is not going to reveal exactly why things happen. JR is constrained, while several pops are made at his expense.

Thoramay may well like to portray himself as a victim, however it is only one side of a "story".

Its a commercial forum, NOT a user forum. The site is run as a an interest of a publishing company NOT as a forum of like minded individuals. There is no committee of forum members who decide. There are "employees" who decide, beyond that owners of capital.

I'm not happy that Tim isn't here anymore, but there are plenty more forums out there, more spaces for social networking and other brands of camera too.
Lurking is shirking.!

I have been at work all day, so I have absolutely no idea what's been going on. I am very disappointed Tim has gone, though, and I would never have imagined him getting banned. To me he has always been one of the stalwarts on here. While I appreciate confidentiality etc, I would love to know what has been going on....

I simply made the point that banning or warnings via PP leads to mis-understandings and polorises members opinions when this action is revealed in open forum.
Had the Mods actions been transparent then there would be no need for guessing and speculation.

It is on this point that I support Tim.

I am not a victim. I am simply another member who has been on the other end of the Mods over zealour reaction without first being given a chance to defend myself, which is everyone's right. If I am to understand Tim correctly he also felt the mods action was similarly undertaken.
It is for that reason, and that reason alone that I am on this thread.

This thread is not about two members who have had a past dis-aggreement. Mature people move on and put such things behind them. Let that be the case.

I had two choices for entertainment this evening, sit and read this forum or go watch X Men The Last Stand, I chose the latter as I though it would be more exciting.
Obviously I was wrong

I too find it incredulous that Tim could get himself banned, I dont know the reason and dont know if Tim will be back but I hope everyone will join me in wishing him well, hopefully he'll still be reading this thread for a while.

Best Wishes Tim.

My comment was not meant to be aimed at you or Thoramay or any other individual member.

Just for the record - I am not happy that Tim has gone either (or others whom I equally respect who have gone before him)- and have tried to tell him so via his flickr post - but that appears to have dissapeard now as well.

1) Always better to divide the mod work up between several so things don't get personalized like they have here
2) Never start slagging off mods on your own Flickr stream
3) This is ugly. No reputations have been enhanced in this thread
4) Good that you both walked away

I have to say I support Prieni/Thoramay's call for greater transparency in cases such as these. Without some account of what exactly went on we have to draw conclusions from the (limited) available evidence. And on the basis of Tim's abundantly demonstrated reasonableness over the course of his several thousand posts, and the anodyne nature of the thread that lead to his banishment, this doesn't reflect well on those who chose to ban him.

Lack of transparency can only lead to disillusionment among existing PUFers, as Prieni indicated. And the loss of such active members as Tim is clearly detrimental to the health of this forum, in the interest of which the moderators are supposed to act.

While we obviously shouldn't be privvy to PM's, I see no reason why the offending thread/posts could not be re-instated if only temporarily in order to help the members understand what we was being censored or what we were being protected from

If you look at virtually any forum you will find that moderators do not discuss their actions with the general masses so why should this one be any different?

You did not ask me to 'move the link'. You deleted the post without warning, and told me to re-post it on page 573 of the 'Another Pointless Thread' thread.

Our warning system is to request something be moved/deleted/ etc. as required, followed by formal warnings where rules are flouted deliberately. Eventually a 7 day ban, and more eventually a permanent ban if that is necessary.
You did not "request" anything. There was no "formal warning". And there was nothing "Eventually" about it - time elapsed between me posting the original Mario thread, and you banning me, was approximately 20 minutes.
Very interesting indeed.
