Thoughts on the K20D

We haven't had much of a chance to use the K20D cameras we bought recently, but a few thoughts so far.

The quality is superb and the exposure is quite a bit more accurate. I have opted for the Bright setting at the moment, which adds a little more "zing" to the shots. We are both using Premium JPEG quality.

There are a number od minor improvements to handling, but the easier-to-use catch on the SD card compartment is actually quite a bit easier to get hold of.

The camera is very, very quiet in operation and I get the feeling that the vibration levels are significantly lower than with the K10D.

So far so good and we're both very pleased.
Best regards, John

Totally agree
The "Portrait" setting is lovely!
Noise levels are, IMO, much lower than the K10D.
Have fun John!

Is the K20D really that much better than the K10D??

The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of an upgrade soon (before the prices go up ).

I can get hold of a GX10 for about £250, which would leave some cash for a lens or two. But i think i may be wondering "what if" and wishing i'd got a K20D instead .

Decisions, decisions.....

I think so. For what I want from it it is significantly better, just as the K10D was a definite step up from the *istDS.

If I were in your shoes, I'd rather have a K10D/GX10 and a new lens than a K20D/GX20 on its own.

But I'll probably wear my K10D out before I chop it in against a new model, whereas there are always new lenses I'd like to try...

I can see the appeal there, especially with the current silly prices available on the GX10. But I'll always be wondering if i should have bought a K20D

Marky;

As much as I love my K20D I would recomend upgrading lenses before body, I was fortunate enough to be able to do both, but in hindsight seeing how superb DA* lenses are I would have been quite happy to forgoe the K20D

If I were in your shoes and had sufficient cash I'd be tempted to opt for a K10D with a 16-50DA* alternatively if yours is the K100D Super then it should I believe work with SDM lenses so just buy some great glass and think of getting a cheap K20D this time next year

By this time next year the K20D may no longer be around. It's as cheap as it's going to get right now if the price rises we've seen hinted at come into force.

That was my initial thought. Now what lens....
The DA16-45 seems a bargain at the moment and I havent seen a bad word written about it and it covers the ranges I'll use the most.

Unfortunately mine is a plain 100D - No SDM lenses for me.

I am still thinking a new GX10 at £250 is a steal...

Ask SRS to reserve one for you. I am sure they will do so for a small deposit.

Don't leave it any longer than that, the £100 cashback expires at the end of January.

I am still stuggling with the settings on my K20. What do you mean by the Bright setting.

Oggy - I could'nt agree with you more there; I do not want to let that cashback opportunity pass me by (sorry folks I'm getting this thread off topic a bit; i'll take this up in a new thread if you want). Which is why I'm buying it in Jan when I get paid.

I will be buying the K20D from SRS too (I've heard so much good feedback from that place on here - and the prices are fab); but I imagine chris cant put a 'pricehold' on the camera on today's prices - yes he could reserve me a K20D; but I'll still need to pay what it's currect price in three weeks will be wont I?

PM him or better still call him and ask him. He is a very reasonable fellow.
