The Wrong Camera?

I know it's been said a thousand times on here before, but it happened to me yesterday for the first time,

Yesterday afternoon there was a break in the weather so me, my wife and kids went a walk across the fields with some friends of ours, Well I was all excited to show off my new K3, my friend on the other hand owns a Nikon D7100.

For 3 sodding miles my friend was informing me I had bought the wrong camera and why his Nikon was the better camera, all I can say its a good job we are good friends.

Well guess what happened, whilst both cameras were mounted on tripods, It started to rain a little and then a lot, to see my friend with his far superior Nikon running around shouting at his wife for some carrier bags, and then his wife standing over him with an umbrella while he rushed to pack his kit away did bring a smile, Myself on the other hand, just wiped my camera down with a cloth and carried on as normal.

Well I must admit the walk back was a lot quieter......

I experience the same thing one Sunday a month when the local club meet up. For almost 6 months now i get the same thing....."why did you buy Pentax?" Should have bought a Canon. Far better bodies, more lenses and better lenses. One person thought Pentax had folded in the 90's.
One chap is more persistent than others. Spends the whole morning telling me why i should switch to Canon. But i've heard him swearing and cursing at his camera. Getting frustrated with the menus, because things are buried. He went quiet when i informed him my Pentax could take 5 bracketed shots, his Canon only 3. I could also set mine to take the bracketed shots in timer mode, he couldn't. My body was weather sealed, his wasn't. My camera body was Mag Alloy, his wasn't. I had a much better view finder, his was rubbish. I could use old primes without adapters, he couldn't. In short i bought a Pentax because it was better, not just because it was cheaper, which is what he's been telling everyone....lol

I got same story. Nobody told that i have wrong camera but everybody look at me when i was carrying shooting when it was raining. Everyone else was hiding his camera under the jumper or in the bag. This was about 1-2 years ago on militarry show in wollaton hall nottingham.

Perhaps the difference between pros and amateurs is that when pros get together we talk about photographs, clients and how long they take to pay, but mostly about photographs. Amateurs on the other hand just seem to talk about cameras.

I think it is a bit, but not to Pentax standards, He is obviously not that confident in Nikons claims

I think you're right. I try not to talk about them, until i get riled that is. Would rather talk about the location, photo opportunities, the light, what other people were thinking but no we get dragged into a slanging match, normally between the Nikon/Canon owners. But then they unite for an attack on the common enemy. Be nice if a Sony, Panasonic or Olympus owner joined us. They could take the flak and i could concentrate on my photographs.

When I'm out and about with other photographers, I can't remember discussions about different cameras ever happening. We're usually busy shooting images, so it doesn't arise.

We talk about cameras when people ask for advice on various makes, but that's about it.
Best regards, John

I think in my thought if I had taken out with me any other camera brand it would not of been questioned, I see it like Peter Kay did with the garlic bread routine.

It's something new and strange and nobody understands it until tried.... But it's the future

Do the pros talk about how to get the best photographs in the rain, snow or hail? Or is it a subject avoided by 90%?

According to Nikon it has the same level of weather sealing as the d800.

To be fair, it was not so long time ago that we had a thread about a Pentax camera damaged by water and Pentax refusing to repair it. And we discussing about the meaning of weather sealing....

We usually talk about lighting foremost, but if we're outside shooting and it rains nearly everyone puts the plastic bags over the cameras regardless of the a alleged weather sealing. Most pros would rather not take the risk of testing the weather sealing and miss a crucial shot due to failure than say yes my weather resistance worked well there.

As for canikon owners there are a few of them on this forum too wink wink
