3 or 4 Mk1's?????

What did you do...... eat them?!??!!

Like a few others on here I used to do a bit of buying and selling to fund my equipment. i would buy a camera or lens for a decent price and then sell it for more than I paid when I saw another that was in better condition (and was also a decent price).

I have a K3 and a K1. My Sigma 150-500 works on the K3 but not on the K1. Some firmware incompatability I expect. There have been a number of versions of that lens, so this may not be the case for all of them. Just something to be aware of.

I have a K-1 and have owned a few Sigma lenses in the past so I wanted to comment on the prism scratch. In my experience I've been able to avoid scratches by putting a bit of tape where the lens mount touches the prism. It's a nice simple solution which looks odd but preserves the cosmetics a tiny bit.

Since I didn't cover the whole camera with tape, it means that spot is probably the only bit that isn't scuffed or worn with time. In hindsight I say there's no point to trying to keep it clean!

I wasn't aware of this quite important difference (Forced NR) between the two models...so has been useful to follow this thread.

With the reported release of a MKIII version sometime in the next few months hopefully it is not too late for this feature to be made actionable ...ON/OFF by the user as per MkI if Ricoh had already chosen the route of the MKII for this.

I'm pretty sure it is on the K3 MKIII as well.

Thanks Steve....

But I'd rather sell it privately, as I'll get more money for it all.

I had a Sigma 150-500 that I used with a K1. It quite turned me against all things Sigma. I didn't realize it preferred being matched to a K3. Neither did I know about the enforced noise reduction with later marques of Pentax cameras. Hey, the value of a forum like this one!

Since we are talking about 'unknown' things and K1s in particular. I have two K1s. Both exhibit the same problem. Leave them unused for a while and turn them on and when you first press the shutter release you get a very non-usual noise and the whole shebang locks up. The only remedy is to turn it off (behold, the display on the LCD remains, no matter what you try, even though it's 'off'!). Remove the battery, The display goes off. Replace the battery and turn it on. You get a loud Ker-LACK! noise and it all works perfectly thereafter. Watching events without a lens in place, the mirror goes up and stays there. On viewing the photos you have taken, there is one black frame, representing the glitch, so it thinks it has, indeed done something - when it hasn't.

I just live with this now but I am always in fear of a total catastrophe of some sort. Anyone else had this problem?
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Yes my K1 mki very occasionally does almost exactly this but just the first image black then normal without having to turn off etc.

Perhaps I should update to the latest firmware, though that fills me with dread!

Eerily enough.... my K3 periodically locks up as well. Must be a Pentax trait????

I have to admit that neither of the dirty world cameras I have owned, have done this...
