How would this compare to the LED Macro Light for Macro. I'm wondering if the flash would be to far away from the lens to obtain an even light, if the light comes out in the form of a cone.

I'll let you know what it's like. I just bought one because I think it'll be simpler to use than my current twin flash rig.
The LED macro light might seem OK but it's lighting options are limited to all, left half, or right half.
Using 'proper' flashes mounted to a rig of this sort you have many more lighting options. You can change the angle of the lighting, and you more output power steps to choose from.
It would be possible to use 3 X AF540FGZ flashes with this device. 1 hot shoe mounted and set as wireless master, 2 fixed to the O-rig set as wireless slave. That's a combined GN of 162, 10 times the available light output of Pentax's AF160FC ring flash. Awesome.

I can't help but feel that set-up might be a bit unwieldy. But also, in the specs for the O-ring:It would be possible to use 3 X AF540FGZ flashes with this device. 1 hot shoe mounted and set as wireless master, 2 fixed to the O-rig set as wireless slave. Max. Loading (flash weight): 2 x 230g (included batteries)
So I think the 540 is probably way too heavy to have a pair of them mounted.
Also, like Barrie, I would think the flash heads would be too far away from the lens to be effective at macro distances, but I could be wrong. I suppose with the Sigma 180mm it might be perfect. It will be interesting to see how you get on with it Peter.

Got one of these too. Trying it out with 2 x AF 160's. Nice and light!

You are probably right Dan. I have a pair of AF240FT's that will probably be within the weight limitation.Max. Loading (flash weight): 2 x 230g (included batteries) So I think the 540 is probably way too heavy to have a pair of them mounted.
Whether it's unwieldy or not remains to be seen but I doubt it's any worse than my current setup. I just hope that the bottom extendible arm is stiff enough that it doesn't bend too much in use. If not, I can always stiffen it up a bit but may have to sacrifice the extendibility.

Could you use these, link, and set off a normal flash, in slave mode, using the pop up as a trigger?
