I agree algi i cant see how they managed to fit any electronics into the teleconverter. Look at the size of Nikon and canons teles which do have some electronics inside and they are very large.

I sometimes use the AF 1.7x adapter together with my FA*300 f4.5, I find the optical quality of the 1.7x adapter to be of very high standards. I have yet to see any noticable image degradation due to the use of the 1.7x adapter. But, as many of you say, it is a product which has gone out of production. Pentax would benefit from having a decent teleconverter in their current product range. I would imagine that most (if not all) other major camera brands have a teleconconverter in their line-up

I agree with the others here however, it seems difficult to imagine what else they could have shoehorned into that tight space.

People expect good focus tracking even with their TC's these days, we now have a body capable of it and with the DA*300 a reasonable (Not brilliantly quick) Lens. I think a lot of people (Me anyway) were hoping for an internal SDM/Screwdrive version of the 1.7AFA, which would not only have SDM contacts but be able to drive the lens a'la 1.7AFA to greater effect than the Lens alone. Don't know if I'm making sense here but still...
So enhanced SDM on lenses with the contacts and screwdrive for those without, this I think would have needed a much bigger convertor and I cannot see that there will be any internal motor in this convertor, so as others have said it's just a straight thru, just like the Tamron PZ, which unless they have managed a proper Pentax miniaturisation miracle, in turn means duff AF.
Electronics may save the day but this is starting to look like a re-vamp or fake, not something with the Pentax difference...

Light seems to be the main problem with these TC's. I've just tried the following on a Pentax MZ-S +DA*300mm f/4. They all work with screwdrive, but the 2X hunts worse than the 1.4x and 1.7x.... The screwdrive is very slow though. NO 2X will work with a Pentax APS-C Digital Camera.

Tamron 1.4x OK slow, but positive.
Jessop 1.7x OK slow, but positive.
Teleplus 2x Works..... hunts a bit... eventually gets there.

I'm surprised they haven't gone for a 1.7x and if it's a light problem the 1.4x might not even be that.

Interestingly SRS currently have some new Kenko T/Cs for pentax, doubt these work with SDM though.

The one's they used to stock were screwdrive only, but it says
made specially for SRS so it's worth asking Chris.

The photo shows it has the moulding for the sdm but no actual contacts, which is a shame.

SRS just use stock pictures and descriptions for TC's. So you
really have to ask.
