The Cotswolds

Hi All
I might be going to the Cotswolds at the end of this month for a small break.
Recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Richard, if you want traditional cotswolds, then there's Stow on the Wold, Bourton on the Water, Bibury, Moreton on the Marsh, The Slaughters and Broadway.

Base yourself nr to say Bourton then the rest is easily drive-able within an 30mins max, Broadway may be 45 mins.

Plus there's Cheltenham or Gloucester,and within the cotswolds there's Falconary centre's Cafe's, plenty of Walks, Take your pick.

Looks good to me i'm now checking out accommodation near Bourton.

Here are a couple of sites if you like photographing birds, wild flowers, butterflies, etc., and just nice places for a walk:

We stayed a few days in Winchcombe last week. A lovely town and much less 'touristy' than Bourton and Stow. Some great walks to be had from there

The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway is worth a look too, they're working on extending to Broadway at the moment. They have some big diesels as an antidote to Cotswold tweeness!

They were celebrating 175 years of GWR last week.

Some great views from Cleeve Common and Leckhampton Hill. Sudeley is a very picturesque village for taking photos and the castle there (more precisely, its grounds) is worth a visit if you have time - it has a pheasantry, so a chance to take some pictures of slightly more unusual birds than the normal falconry centres!

Thanks for all of your reccommondations I have booked in at a hotel in Chipping Cambden.
I am looking forward to going as it's my first time there.
So i will be visiting as many places as i can for plenty of pics.

Chipping Campden is a wonderful old-world town with a huge Church. The Church itself, is like a museum and well worth a look.
Broadway Tower is near to Chipping Campden, with fine views.
Snowshill is a nearby village with a NT Manor House. There are also Lavender fields.

I second Chipping Campden as a place worth visiting in the Cotswolds. it's my favourite spot there. Cirencester, further south, is also a beautiful old town with a very large parish church, quite like a mini cathedral. In fact there are many architectural treasures and gardens in towns and villages throughout the Cotswolds. Bourton On The Water has a model village.

Shameless plug for The Eight Bells pub in Church Street, Chipping Campden - excellent food and good beer (and my son's the manager)

dont forget the Cotswold Water park that straddles the A419 just south of Cirencester. Waterskiing and sailing there. also, Lechlade, just to the east of the Cotswold Water Park and just south of Burford.

I will check out the Eight Bells, i'm sure some refreshment of sorts will be nice.
