terrible photographs

Are there occasions when you have a technically terrible photo but you like it anyway?

I'm rather more fond of this one than I should be!

I have something similar, although maybe not quite so pleasing as yours, Kris, here:




I was just scouting around through the viewfinder and a gull flew over and dropped it's giant chunk of food... This resulted in an instant reaction from all the other gulls madly scrambling to get it... I like it because it captures that moment although none of the birds (nor the lump of food, which I managed to catch) are actually in brilliant focus. My favourite bit is the gull on the right edge doing an about-turn..., accentuated by the blur around his head

yeah you wouldn't want to post something like that on a canon forum... poor cannonites (not to be confused with Canaanites) going into epileptic like seizures.... it's not sharp, not sharp, sh-sh-sshh-shhh- arp....
could kill the poor misguided morons...

I love the shot Kris, it's almost abstract

I am pleased you all like it. For a grab shot (I was photographing the sun rise and was just packing up) and me cursing the fact the Tamron/K20D didn't lock on fast enough, I actually rather like it. It seems to work much better in BW than in colour.

Perhaps I should enter it for the magazine now that my original two entries no longer fit the theme!

An image doesn't have to be sharp or even technically perfect to be good, Kris' shot has captured a feeling of "the moment" quite well, and the border is still sharp

I believe serendipity is the word! Like it.

Like the shot a lot Kris. Recently visited Slimbridge and the shot reminded me of one of Sir Peter Scott's painting displayed there. So you are in good company!
