Ten More Infra Reds

Posted 01/07/2015 - 21:22 Link
Hi all

Thought I'd post a few more Infra Reds. All taken over the last few months. 720nm IR converted K30, with a variety of lenses, but principally the Samyang 8mm Fisheye. Other lenses the DA 17 70, DA 55-300, FA 35, FA 50, Sigma 10-20, all of which work very nicely.

Every time I see a good set of IR shots - I want to get a camera converted!

Very nice - especially 1 and 3 for me

No matter how many lenses I have owned - I have always needed just one more

Love the graphic feel of 2 & 3 & 7
And 4 is lovely - great comp, not obviously IR either.

Inspirational. I've been planning to try some IR photography for ages, now I really must get my finger out.

Love IR and after my IR converted K20d calved on me at the weekend, these have me pining to spend money to get back in the saddle so to speak.

Who are the pentax IR conversion go to guys nowadays? I'd consider getting my K5 converted .... that's if its a good 'donor' body for the conversion? My K20d had an 850nm filter. I'm thinking a 720nm is the one Id go for next

For now I'm waiting on a Hoya R72 filter to see how it does on the K5 and K3.... no idea what the exposures will need to be

Oh... in terms of my favourites here, Id have top say 2 & 6 are my stand outs.

Hi all... thanks very much for your thoughts and comments on these thus far... very much appreciated...

Sean... do have a look at the various posts on my original thread link on this re conversion details etc. (I used ACS in Norfolk)... I had a long conversation with them beforehand re the conversion process, cost, time, best cameras etc, and they were quite clear that they could convert any Pentax DSLR (I was half thinking of converting a K5 at the time)... but I know MarkLJ spoke to them recently and they said they couldn't convert a K5, so best speak to them yourself I think and see what answer you get... Re the Hoya R72 filter, I've used one on both a K5 and a K3... both work absolutely fine, although expect to be going the high ISO route, or around the 2/3 minute exposure mark with lower ISOs...

Hope that helps...

Thanks for those details Bill

I'm just off the phone with ACS there and they say they done a few K5 conversions, so that's good news. I'm going to pack up my K20d and ship it off to them as well to get looked at. Hopefully a loose connection but I'm not holding out much hope for that. Would be nice if it was though.

Incidently, what lens do you typically use? I use a Sigma 24m manual prime mostly and sometimes a Pentax F35mm to 70mm . Had been using a sigma 10-20mm but though it had a very noticeable hotspot in IR.

Impressive work! It is difficult to pick a favourite amongst so many strong images, but I appreciate especially much the last image.

I don't normally like IR but there are some beauties here. I keep returning to 9 - windswept and desolate.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Superb stuff, 2, 3, 5 and 10 for me. These make me want a camera converted to IR! I've got a Hoya R72 filter, which is good to experiment with, but not quite the same and pretty tricky to use too.

These aren't the usual IR fair Bill. And because of that, for me anyway, I had to look at them more than once to appreciate them.

Having done so, I find them refreshingly different. An excellent set.

I've been dithering over a conversion for a couple of years now (there's always something else I want to spend £250+ on). Sets like this don't help ... lol

2, 4, 9 and 10 for me - some nice work and agree with davidstorm that on seeing good IR images, makes me want to get a camera converted too!
