im aware that this lens is not the best but for anyone looking to fill a gap Jessops are selling Tamron 70-300mm for just under 90.(offer ends midnight).

bye the bye how would this lens fair against my kit lens 50-200mm?

I've had a couple in the past. Excellent value for 90. Not as compact as your 50-200 but with useful extra reach. I would say it would fair very well against it. Infact, I would prefer it over the 50-200.

I have that and I prefer it to the 50-200. I like the longer reach, a lot of people absolutely HATE the Chromatic Aberration it produces, but for me I'd rather have an image than none at all. It's much larger than the 50-200 but not that heavy. It's got a lens lock, and at the price you're saying, I'd snap it up.
