Studio flash dilemma

True... if I only had to deal with my camera store, I probably would have thought little of the experience -- other than feeling the devices being of rather questionable quality.
One of the Eleinchrom/Bogen reps was in the store when I took the lights back for repair. She expressed her irritation with how Elinchrom had handled the known defects. That probably tainted my views but it supported my experiences with regard to other issues.

Well, I take your comments on board. Trouble is in the uk, Elinchrom and Bowens are about the only "affordable" systems with decent professional backup and output quality and bowens is about 50% more expensive and much less portable (ie heavier). The Dlites are made in India to Elin's spec. I suspect they had a bad run with the initial set and tried to cover it up. Not a good plan long term. I'll see how mine go. I do use the BXs more than the Dlites and they are still swiss made AFAIK.

Well I got older elinchrom lights. couldn't be happier.
Also got the skyport radio slaves. Absolutely a joy to work with.
here's an example of what I put my slaves through, please keep in mind that this image is NOT a finished product.....I'll be adding some snow flurries and borders and removinge the flash unit before changing the color of the bridge in the final image. this is pretty much out of camera, using white balance and flash, with only slight adjustments in Aperture.
but it does show how I use the slaves in bad conditions....

Don could you post the finished article as well please as I'd like to see how you transform this (and then I'll ask lots of questions about how you did it).

no probs..to get you started you might want to try searching these forums....I believe that it was JR, Matt, and George, (also me) that posted some images and how to's on creating snow, in Photoshop, a couple years back...

Just a quick response to your question on DLites experience...
Nice little strobes. I like them a lot (have the DLites4).
Just beware... Elinchrom quality and support do NOT match their reputation!!
Within about 50 shots, my DLite4s died! They were shipped with a known issue of bad capacitors. Yes, I got them fixed for free under warranty, but only had them a couple of weeks and had to wait four to six more weeks to get them repaired.
I could go on for another page or two on Elinchrom experiences, but suffice to say, you may want to try other brands that still believe in customer satisfaction!
