New Photographic Ideas

Whenever people ask me how they should get out of a photographic rut, I suggest that one way is to find a personal project. This could be anything at all that we are interested in, but the combination of photography and another interest is a very powerful one.

As an example, I am now starting a personal project investigating the family history and our relationship to the Fitzgeralds, the most famous of which is edward, who was the inspired translator of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. There is a lot of information for me to absorb and make something of, and i have several ideas in mind, starting with reading his "Letters and Literary Remains" (7 Volumes, 1902) of which I am now haldf way through Volume 2; and a visit to Suffolk early 2006 to make a photographic record of various sites and monuments.

For now, here is my first offering, a montage of EFG and his cottage at Boulge with a very nice quatrain from the poem, and, if you can see it at this resolution, his signature as well. Critiques welcomed!

But the purpose of this post is mainly to make the point - find a project and the enjoyment of the photography is enhanced.

Fair enough, a project about beer then, including, presumably, lots of practical research?

My significant other, my hienie, nad to be honest it was a self assignment of made up products and spoofs of products I did recently.
Objective was to produce a portfolio to show local ad agencies. Yes lots of research....lol...javascript:emoticon('')

I'm not really in a rut but as there are no Photography courses here in Durham now I find that setting my self little projects is a way of getting a litle focus. At the moment it's Xmas decorations.
