Stolen K5

Dear All

I'm a new member to the forums, only joined a couple of days ago after meeting FrtizTheDog at Bempton Cliffs shooting gannets. I'd rather hoped one of my first posts would be more positive, but I've had a terrible 24Hrs..

Last night I decided to pop out in Beverley to take some shots of the Minster by night, before starting to shoot I stopped in the town centre to get some cash from the hole in the wall. During the few minutes I left my car to get some cash someone broke into the boot and lifted all by camera gear.

I wanted to post this here in case any of you see a K5 and various assorted bits up for sale somewhere. There is a more or less complete list below and I'll update with serial numbers once I get back home.

What they took:

- Monfroto Tripod

Camera Bag containing:
- K5 with 18-55mm Kit Lens
- Sigma DG 70-300mm Zoom lens
- Pentax-M 1.7 50mm
- Phottix Strato II Wirless Flash Trigger + additional Slave (3 units in all)
- Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit
- 16Mb Sandisk Memory card with photos of Harlow Carr RHS gardens !

Lighting Bag (Portaflash bag, but not sure its branded) containing:
- 2 x Portaflash Light stands
- 2 x Portaflash light stand adaptors
- 2 x Portaflash Umbrellas
- 2 x Yongnuo YN-560 II flash guns
- Popup reflector
- case containing cokin filter adapters and 3 ND grads and a 10 stop screw on filter

The k5 was only purchased a few months ago after saving jessops vouchers for over a year I have an amazing family and they know how much my camera means to me so my parents went out today and spent a good portion of their savings to get me a new k5. I'm so humbled and grateful.

On a slightly more practical note I now only have two lenses, the K5 kit 18-55 and a Sigma APO 170-500mm (which fortunately wasn't in the boot) so I'd welcome any advice on suitable, good value, glass to fill the gap i now have.

I believe that apart from the police and ebay trawling there is also a website on which you can record the serial number of the camera and this site will advise you if any photos from the camera are posted on the net at leat you will track the camera - not sure of the site name but a quick google search may help.

Also, should you be covered by insurance and need a hand with the paperwork or policy wording intricacies pm me as I spent 15+ years in the insurance business and may be able to help )

Oh hell - I am so dammed sorry to hear this and as I am sitting reading - have just realised that I have left all of my gear in the boot of my car parked outside my house- will correct that shortly!

There but for the grace of God etc - as I am constantly leaving gear in the boot and this is a timely reminder to me that I am a complete fool for doing so and also for not having it insured.

I know it is no consolation but at least you still have the big Sigma which I know from what I saw you producing with it is a much better copy than the one I used to have!

As for 'good value' glass - really depends on what you want to cover and do with it.

I notice you lost your M 50 prime. If you want to contact me - I am sure I have a couple of Pentax fit 50s lying around - will not be Pentax but Rikenon or Chinon - in my book both as good as the Pentax M - one has your name on it if it is any use to you - no charge. I will PM you so that you are able to contact me

I'm pretty sure the whole lot would be covered by your car insurance, especially if it was locked in the boot and not just in the car, although I guess the value may be above their maximum limit and then there is the excess but have a good look. Certain home insurances might cover it but don't raise your hopes on that one.

Wow, thank you all so much for the messages of support. Fritz was spot on when he said this was a great community and I'm so glad to be part of it. Given that most of my gear was stolen this was an opportunity to perhaps re-consider moving to canikon, but looking at whats available at the K5 price point and the support on forums like this I'm proud to remain loyal the Pentax.

Not sure what my insurance covers yet, have car insurance and contents but no specific camera insurance (stupid stupid stupid), will check policy details when I get home from parents house.

So sorry to hear that Hullman. People who do that sort of thing a complete and utter ***** ( fill in your own approriate label )

Sadly a fact of our society these days, but sorry that it's happened.

I hope that you are able to get your things back, and those who think this kind of act is acceptable get their just desserts at some point. Sadly they will probably fence them off for a fraction of their monetary (let alone sentimental) value, for some cheap substance-based thrill.

I'll add my commiserations to the others, and hope that you will be able to recover your gear, or at least get insurance reimbursement.

One just does not expect to have a car boot broken into in a place like Beverley: it has always seemed a decent sort of community to me.

I'm in the process of moving in with my girlfriend at the moment...
Apparently my camera gear will be covered under her home contents insurance even if in the boot of the car...
I've never had home contents insurance before so don't know if this is standard or just a feature of her particular policy but if you have 'HCI' it might be worth checking your policy... (?)

Is it possible that they could have clocked you putting the gear in the boot. Breaking into a boot when you don't know what's in it seems a bit a random
