Well poor old Kris was just trying to help ! I'm sure some people will find this of great benefit. Not everyone is au fait with forum useage.
I upload at 1024 pixels to flickr to give a better viewing size for people visiting my photostream.
If I want to display something on a forum I generally upload to photobucket at 800 pixels wide.

Since Flickr re-designed their site, I have been unable to upload from there to here. I grab the URL and return here to paste it into the post, like I used to, but when I hit the preview button, there is no picture, just a little white square with a red cross in it.
What's the procedure, now?

If anything it's slightly easier now - more clicking on Flickr but less fiddling around selecting the correct part of the URL and less clicking over here
Click the 'Share this' button above the image, then click 'Grab the HTML', then click the 'BBCode' radio button, then optionally choose what size image you want from the drop down menu, then highlight all of the text in the box and paste into your post on this forum. You don't need to click the 'Image' button on this forum anymore, and it will automatically include your title from Flickr.

Sorry, Tim. - Not working for me. Followed your instructions and now don't even get little white box. I'm doing it wrong, obviously.
When you say "Highlight all of the text in the box", do you mean the HTML box? I already did that when grabbing it.

I have it now. You have to grab it, click BBCode button, then go back and highlight HTML again!- Daft! It was easier before. I don't like that it automatically links back to your Flickr page from here, either.
I do wish Flickr hadn't changed things.

Another way with firefox.
open the image , Actions: All available sizes.
Choose the size you want.
Right click, View image info.
Find the image link and copy it.
Paste it between the IMG tags.
[IMG]http://i740.photobucket.com/albums/xx49/df8/Fullscreencapture18082010075901.jpg[/IMG]
(sometimes Javascript is used to turn off these context menus, you can switch off Javascript and access the menu before turning it back on, in Tools, Options)

Right click, View image info.
Find the image link and copy it.

My understanding is that 800 pixels on the longest side is the standard on this forum. So please, follow John's kind advice. It isn't that difficult

OK for your own images, but context menus are disabled (if you ever want to save some other picture for your own reference) for some copyright images.
