Spotmatic Batteries

A Search on the forum delivered nothing recent apart from mowog offering some correct fitting batteries, so here goes:
What battery do members use to replace the Mercury cell in their older Spotmatics (SP, SPII, etc)when it finally expires?
Searching the Internet reveals a whole manner of suggestions, and a not-too-surprising observation that a battery selling for $2.99 in the US has become £5+ in the UK.

The Wein cell is the correct 1.35v. Obtainable from The Small Battery Company.

I used Silver Oxide batteries from Small Battery Company in my Spotmatics with no problems. The voltage is higher at 1.55 but the Spotmatics up to the IIs had a bridge circuit which means voltage variations do not matter. I don't think that applies to the ES. I'm not sure about the F.

The problem with the Wein cells is that they lose charge as soon as you install them.

Some do indeed say that the Silver Oxide cells cause no problems. The books say that it will cause exposure errors.

Wein cells will last about 6 months. Mercury batteries lasted 12 months at least, as I would expect Silver Oxide ones to do also.

Just imagine, all us Digital Users - not changing a battery for a whole year! How technology changes things....

I've a silver oxide cell in my SP. When checked the metering was on a par with my ME Super.

My SP500 gives the same results.

Hope that helps.
