Spot the PPG reject (8 images - sorry!)

I have been occasionally baffled by some of the PPG selections over the past few months. Some of my favourite shots have been rejected. On the other hand I've been surprised occasionally by those selected (some of which on reflection I might not even have put forward in the first place). So out of curiosity I thought I'd post some here and see if the PUF consensus matches PPG's judgment.

At one point I thought there was some bias against people shots, but I don't think it's that - as you'll see, all the photos here contain people (as do most of my PPG inclusions).

So which of the following was accepted IYO (no cheating by viewing my PPG) - 4 have, 4 haven't. Original titles included in case this is in any way a factor.

Click on the images to see them at their proper size.

1. Breakfast in the park

2. Bentota beach scene

3. Street reader

4. Dikwella beach scene

5. Induruwa curves 3

6. On the buses, Colombo style

7. Pelawatta bus stand

8.

Yes for # 3, 4, 6 & 8???
At least those are the 4 that have the greatest appeal to me because they are vibrant or has an element in the photo that tells a story.

edit:
Just looked at your PPG account, and well what can I say. ^^;

btw about the sharpening, I think you're pushing that too far with most of these photos. I've looked them at full size.

Won't give the game away re. PPG, Stefan.

Which do you feel are oversharpened? I would say 5 & 8 are. These actually aren't as submitted to PPG. These were earlier versions (that are on my Flickr and hence posted here), but apart from sharpening otherwise identical to my PPG submissions.

Yes Mhuni, I've already looked but lets keep it quiet or else the rest know how good or bad I did it

#1 feels over-sharped, the flowers on the ground feel too crisp and there is a halo around the guy.

#2 also halo around the boys you get with over-sharpening.

#3 halo at the dark side off the column, the news paper and some at the guys clothing.

#4 halo at the horizon and the people.

#5 halo around the girl and at the elements off the top of the arc at the door and the stair way feels too crisp.

#6 this one is good although I've the feeling you're on the edge here but it still looks good.

#7 this one is also good no remarks about the sharpening either.

#8 pushed it too far, halo around the chair's at the bar, the guy and the tv and you see that the details on the wall are too crisp.

With crisp I mean that the details are too harsh too my taste.

Great idea for a thread Dr. Mhuni!

I think the shots which were accepted were:

3. Street reader
8.
6. On the buses, Colombo style

And one of either:

2. Bentota beach scene; or
5. Induruwa curves 3

(and if you pushed me to choose between the last two I would say number 5 (although number 2 just has something about it I can't put my finger on).

How did I do?
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

No 8 yes.
No 3 I like but don't think it's what I would expect to find in the PPG.
The others are good photos , just not great photos.

I don't think photos have to be great to be in PPG - though perhaps they should be!

Have no idea what was chosen but I like 3,5 and 8 - perhaps I should say particularly like as all of them are worth a prolonged view. If I need four then I would go for 1 because of the detail, love the repair to the bench or is it that the concrete has fallen from the supporting wire.

Thanks Jackie. I think you're right - the concrete's fallen off.

My guess would be the second shot didn't make it in, compared to the rest it resembles more of a snap than a serious image, thats not saying I am trying to discredit the image in any way, I'm just comparing it to the rest.

I shall await the revalation after others have had a go.

Btw, am I the only one that finds them too sharp, no one mention it and I feel such a bad person now

Having to choose four I would say 3, 5, 6, and 7. They are the ones that I kept going back to for another look. I also like 8.

3, 5, 6 & 8 for me.

I'll now go and look.
