Split screen focus aid - a few questions

Because I shoot a lot with my old M SMC lenses, I have to focus manually.
I am therefore needing to get a split screen focus aid installed in my K100D.
Does anywhere offer this facility where you can take the camera in and they will supply and install or is it a case of getting one off the net and DIY.
Has anyone else done this, is it easy to do?
And which ones are best...Pentax original?

Karl, Katzeye are the ones I know of, take a look here http://www.katzeyeoptics.com/cat--Pentax-DSLRs--cat_pentax.html only thing is they are a US based company so you will have more costly than usual shipping and duty. If you have a look around on their site you will find instructions for self install.

Thanks Greytop, I have seen the Katzeye site and the installation guide. Was just hoping there might be a solution a bit nearer to home.

I use a spit prism for my K10. I got it from a chinese seller on ebay. A fraction of the Katzeye price and it works superbly.

Easy to install yourself.

Oops!

Wrong links page, you mean the one on the Katzeye website.

The only ones available seem to be for the K10/20, are they the same size as the K100/200? :

On the US Katzeye site they list different screens.... so they aren't the same.

They are expensive but not as dear as Beattie screens used to be. Pentax are loosing out by not making their own... Extra 40 Dollars for the focus marks... ouch!!! I can focus OK with the standard screen thanks!

The cheap Chinese screen I got off eBay was rubbish compared to a katz Eye - which is better made altogether and doesn't black out so easily. The price is high but it's worth it.

Don't worry, you don't have to take your camera apart to change the screen. It just clips in. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqZCjT-jr1s

They do one for the K100 too:

There is a distributer in the Netherlands as well. Search this forum for "Katz Eye". You may need to order from the States if you want certain options though.

Naughtily expensive! However, you will enjoy one as much as a new lens, so you can justify spending that much.

Forget the AF brackets. You know whereabouts the focus points are without needing brackets. Optibrite is good. I didn't get rule-of-thirds with mine, but will include them if ever I get another one - to help with my wonky horizons disease.
