Something went wrong with my K7 in an instant... Pretty worried.

Basically I was about to set off on a walk with the camera, took a quick snap of a flower and in a matter of seconds, this happened:

Normal:

Split second later, same settings.

I checked the properties on the computer, they are identical, and they were taken literally one after the other...

It's as if the shutter settings have shifted. A couple minutes later I took this on 1/4000, but the shutter clearly didn't go that fast:

I'm rather worried...

I would suspect you set bracketing inadvertanlty, so the exposures are normal, over and under exposed.

Or maybe HDR?

Not on home PC so don't know if there's any EXIF. But it looks like bracketing. Think you can set that up to take 3 shots with 1 press of the shutter, or with 3 individual presses. Try checking out the drive mode you are using. Just to make sure its not set to take three bracketed shots

Beat me to it John

How do I check if that's the case?

I took about ten shots a few minutes later and it was still doing the same thing.

It will continue to do so until you switch it again. Were you looking through the menus at some point?

I'm not entirely sure. I'm pretty basic with settings beyond just shooting manually.

On the 4 way controller on the back, the UP button takes you to drive mode. From there you can see which option you have selected, and you can change it. Just set it to basic single shot. See if that cures your problem.

It appears to be on single shot, but I'll go out and take a few snaps.

I was concerned because the normal looking photo there was the last one to look like that. Kept taking pictures afterwards and they all look like the overexposed image.

I had switched between three lenses shortly before hand just to see if everything looked good, because I haven't used the camera for a few weeks.

If you are using a tripod make sure you cover the eyepiece to avoid light confusing the exposure.

Also, Press the exposure compensation button then the green button to make sure it is normal.
Lurking is shirking.!

Wasn't using a tripod. Only difference in the desktop utility is the RGB levels.

i get the same in hi drive mode, just pointed at same sceen and pressed for 6 shots some under exposed some normal so looked at exif data all read same data, so expect shutter fires before fully exposed, don't know why but think i will send mine for full service.
Also shutter jams somethimes but not often....

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently changed the ev setting? If you press the +/- button just behind the shutter release on the left it will show the ev value. If it's not in the middle, press that button and twiddle the rear (or front, depending how it's set up on your camera) wheel until it's back in the middle.

The other culprit could be setting the camera to spot metering. This will cause wildly incorrect exposures depending upon where the spot happens to fall, unless you are aware it's on and use it appropriately.

I think it must be a physical issue, seeing as the last shot that looked normal was a split second before the first off looking one. It's still not really working, it's like all of the colour has disappeared from the pictures, which is really disheartening because my favourite thing about the camera is how rich colours looked on it.

I'm going to try and find out where the nearest dealer is and speak to them in person, it's still under warranty if anything is actually wrong with it.
