Probably, but it'll be a warranty job if it's the staing problem.

It does look like the staining issue to me.

What are the first 2 digits of your serial number?
When was the camera made?

Yes you should be concerned. Classic staining. A warranty job as Peter says.

Good luck!

Looks almost identical to the stain I had. I was gutted but it was sorted very quickly and efficiently by JP.

Eeek, mine is close to that at 402xxxx, built in April 2011. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

I had thought that all bodies with serial numbers starting with 4 were not affected by this.

Please don't double post in the forum, I'll leave this one an remove the other one. All that happens is you get two competing threads evolving.
Best regards, John

Fair enough John. I thought I'll post on the other thread as my Camera is from batch that's supposed NOT to have the stain issue.

Gutted as I'm just about to go on holiday

Not a happy situation for sure. I'd be tempted to take it on holiday and just clone out the offending marks on any images where it shows. It could be fixed under warranty when you return.

Mine replacement is older and close in serial # to many with stains, but is showing no signs (yet) so don't panic Peter.

Should I even bother?

The above two images were taken with my new Sigma 10-20.

I changed over to the DA*300 to do some more tests:

On clear blue sky, I cannot see any stain (f13-f32)

On white clouds, I can barely see then at f16, but visible f22 onwards

I am wondering whether I should just accept this is within normal limits of manufacture or ask for a warranty repair when I come back for holiday

Definitely, even if you can live with it ;
a) The resale value is severely diminished.
b) It is a manufacturing fault, why would you not want a replacement?
c) You will always know it is there, it will always be an issue.

Think the way Pentax and its distributors have reacted this is not the case.
Have a good holiday, then get it replaced.
