A few of the Carp from Ness Gardens...not the easiest things to image and not very photogenic but they can be quite colourful.

These are with the K-5IIs and Tokina AT-X 50-250 f/4-5.6.

As you say, they are colourful. They cannot be the easiest subjects to coax into having their picture taken. Were they being friendly or did you tempt them with the prospect of food?

We didn't have any food for them although on reflection they maybe thought we had as they were swimming close to the shore near where we were or under a small bridge that separated a smaller backwater from the larger pond. We did stand on the bridge.

If you can get to the waters edge safely, they love being tickled and you will be mobbed by dozens of them.

I've heard of 'tickling a trout' but not a carp...useful to know if there is a next-time though David !

I learned this at the Berlin aquarium where there is a large, shallow pool right in the foyer, designed specifically to allow access to the fish - or is that the other way round - to allow the fish access to you? They can't get enough of it. I transferred the experience to the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham and their Koi Carp came flocking to my fingers!

So, If you are in Brum, visit the Botanical Gardens. If you are in Berlin, the aquarium is a fantastic experience that is hard to describe.
