2) Raynox DCR 250? Never heard of it.

Yes it is the 'Sigma Achromatic Macro Lens' - bought it to use with the old sigma 70-300 APO lens to give it 1:1 magnification

Very nice images. If you get a beast that will stay still long enough (shield bugs for example), have a go at focus stacking. It solves the dof problem.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Thanks, there should be quite a lot of info about the Raynox DCR-250 and it less powerful brother the DCR-150 on the web, with info about magnification and working distances. They are quality optics giving a lightweight portable solution to macros and closeup.

Thanks, I have dipped my toe into stacking but just can't get on with it. Alignment issues and much time watching the egg timer spin on my older PC's. Some of the images I have seen others produce using this technique are amazing though.
