Nice set, the snow really shows of the shapes of the trees beautifully.

I really like the first one, it has a great, threatening atmosphere. The second is nice too, but as you said, the third one leaves a bit to wish for. It's a good image, but just as you said, with a little better light and a tripod it'd look simply amazing!

I did get back in the afternoon on Tuesday this week, in the sunshine - with lots of gear, tripod, ND filters, various lenses - but I'm not so happy with the result. I took loads of photos - this is the nearest to a duplicate of the photo I posted above.

OK, so I took it at f22, 1 second to get the whispy, silky water - but there's not really enough water, maybe I should wait for a thaw. Also, we had lots more snow and some of the more interesting icicles (bottom right) are now covered.
I'm not really convinced that it's an improvement. Maybe a bit more photoshopping of the earlier image .........

Make that an honorary one here too. Saddleworth is my old stomping ground and I still go there regularly.
Nice work too!

I LIke them too.
I must show these to His Nibs when he gets in. He's from Chadderton, born at Boundary Park and a Latics fan. His dad worked at the Elk Mill.

My father-in-law went deaf from working in the mill, and suffered from byssinosis. No laughing matter working in a mill in those days.
The Elk (or where it was) seems to be a shopping centre now.

Below Besom Hill .....
Still below Beson Hill .....
This is the "waterfall" in Pingot Quarry, Oldham. It was a cold day, the light was very flat, I didn't take a tripod and only had the kit lens with me. It's sort of OK, but maybe a bit busy. I did think a bit of late afternoon sun might help - but before I had a chance to get back there again in better light, we had a substantial snow fall and it covered up some of the more interesting icicles.
