Snow, sun and shadows

Hope these appeal! I was drawn to the long shadows in a lot of them, thought the bright sunlight was hard to manage well. More to follow after these. K1 + FA 28-105.

The way you've caught the sky is impressive. And so cold! Great images.

3rd here for me. Lovely clean image with a nice blue sky, which when it comes to snow images from here in the UK, is a rare treat. When I say clean image I mean when you look at the third you see dark patches in the snow caused by the snow fall not being deep enough to blanket the foreground, so you get (in my eyes) unsightly elements that distract the eye and it looks messy. That 3rd image, these are reduced and its then more about the elements

Number 11 is the best for me.

Gareth, I understand what you are saying about "clean" images, but am not so sure about which you are referring to that looks "messy". Unless by "third" you don't mean number 3, but the bottom third of the image where the snow is not virgin, but has been walked over. Could that be it?

All of them are lovely but 3 and 11 particularly.

Once again a great set that just work so well together to illustrate your journey - I won't bother saying keep em coming because I'm sure you will

When I said messy I mean the black bits sticking out of the snow where the snow hasn't snowed enough to fill them in so you end up with black bits showing. Nothing to do with you but mother nature!

You certainly made the best of those conditions. Nr. 11 is my favourite.

How did you do the metering?

Thanks for the clarification, Gareth. Personally I don't mind the dark bits - it's just the way things are.

Richard, my metering is very basic! ie. manually adjusting aperture, shutter speed and ISO so that the brightest parts of the image are not overexposed in the viewfinder; then bringing back any dark areas in processing. I've been using Affinity Photo for a good while now (just getting used to Version 2) and find it very good.
