Snobbery.

I've been wandering about China for the last ten days or so and noticed quite a lot of Pentax cameras being carried by Chinese people at the tourist places in both Beijing and Dalian. Not as many as the other two, but still..
(I once played golf at a club where the members always spoke of another club in the area as 'the other club". Never mentioned it by name - now THAT is snobbery )

I remember a review of one car (I'm sure it was the Marina) in the 1980's in CAR magazine. They basically summed it up as:

Fine car for the 80's
Some in their 90's will like it as well

Same mag had a review of a Volvo:

FOR: Built like a Tank!

AGAINST: Drives like a Tank!

SUMMARY: It is a Tank!

A post has been deleted that was straying too far into territory that has no place on Pentax User.

‘Snobbery’ can go two ways of course. Yesterday I was pottering round a Garden Centre cum Nature Park with my (adopted) grandchildren, so naturally had my trusty K20 with me.

Sitting down for the mandatory Ice Cream (for the Kids, I can’t stand the stuff), I saw a guy sitting a few tables away with a Pentax. I spoke over to him and said ‘ah a Pentax Man then’. He grinned replying ‘of course’.

There followed a 15 min Pentaxian conversation. We exchanged email addresses and went our separate ways (me to clean up Ice Cream).

If he was waving about any other Brand, human contact would not have occurred

Walking between Arnastapi and Hellnar in Iceland 2 weeks ago a K7 owner and I passed each other - we gave the obligatory approving grunts....

As a Saab owner - I am familiar with the 'Saab wave' so we should have the 'Pentax nod'

ISO - you need to curb your imagination...

It's just a wave.

Well, It's not so much a wave, as an angry shaking of fist when the gearbox keeps jumping out of reverse... And the heater valve siezes up...... And the headlining disintegrates and falls down... And......!

I only wave at fellow C900 drivers (and 99s if I see one) - does that make me a bad Saabist..?

I've just driven back from town with the headlining resting on my head, guess a call to Steve Lewis is in my not-too-distant future...

I know Steve Were you in the convoy in January?

Nothing wrong with sagging headlining - I enjoyed that in my M83 99GL (now sadly departed)....I have a 9-5 Aero, it's fun trying to find out true afficionados from the company car drivers, and I wave

I wasn't in the convoy no, but Steve has proved a great source of used parts for my various 900's over the years and he's one of the few prepared to sort out headlinings for not too many £££ (take note 2-stroke-to-turbo!)

Both my current 900s are sagging but it's my daily driver that's the worst culprit - it's getting to the stage where I have to gather it up before I can get in the car and it sits on my head like a big baggy hat as I drive along. The things Saab owners are prepared to put up with eh?
