Snobbery.

I remember a review of one car (I'm sure it was the Marina) in the 1980's in CAR magazine. They basically summed it up as:
Fine car for the 80's
Some in their 90's will like it as well
--------------------
Same mag had a review of a Volvo:
FOR: Built like a Tank!
AGAINST: Drives like a Tank!
SUMMARY: It is a Tank!

You will find snobbery in whichever hobby you follow.
One of my (many) other hobbies is medal collecting; mainly WWI medals.
I'm quite happy picking up medals to Privates through to Sergeants but I know I'm looked down upon by those who collect medals to senior officers (especially if they have decorations).
Be happy with what you do and stuff the rest.

I proudly walk around with my Pentax and can't help noticing that Canikon owners do seem to look down on me (probably as I am only 5ft 8in)- it makes me smile
It has a major advantage though as not one of the Canikon crowd bothers to speak to me about my camera etc so I am left alone to take pictures
I was once confined to a bird hide with two of the above mentioned who where getting way to excited about a tripod one of them had handled but not put an offer in on - I packed up and left quickly - just as I was leaving they were moaning about how many shots they had taken that day that would have been ok had the camera not missed focus - surely not - this followed with a quick smile and an even quicker exit my myself.
If carrying a Pentax makes me invivisble then it's a plus point
cheers

You should have seen me wandering the static displays at RIAT. While I had my K-m and 100-300mm for the flying displays (still looked tiny compared to the CaNikon brigade with their white drainpipes) I decided to take my ME Super and 40mm pancake along with a roll of black and white to photograph the Battle of Britain 70th anniversary exhibits. I think it was probably smaller than a lot of the digital compacts let alone the DSLRs!

wow what a can of worms just posted on another topic(18-55 replacement)and a lot of what i said there had relevence here, people with too much money buying what they dont even truly need,we are all guilty at some point i guess.i read a book recently by scott kelby saying 5mp is plenty,he also said invest in good glass but never once mentions old glass,or even promotes pentax,i will forgive him that, obviously he wants to be popular so why not pick two most succesfull brands, dont think he,s getting any dosh off canon or nikon,or he would have said pixels count.so why do we buy pentax, for some of us price, others like me weigh up everything and look for reasons not to follow the masses(canonites),to stand out as different but not foolish or insane, pentax is where we have ended up..and samsung rocks (might be around longer than pentax)....samsung gx20,pentax k10d,pentax k200d,olympus E20p.tons of old glass and old cameras, but born and bred black country.so couldnt pass for a snob...lol.

Why do some Pentax users think Canikon users are looking down on us... Most of those users won't even heard of Pentax never mind used one.
Like most things in life people are all different. To band all people the same because of their choice of equipment is well shallow to say the least.I have met nice canon & nikon users as Ihave met some right ignoramouses...

Nigel, ever been asked to use paragraphs, spaces, capitals?
I can't be bothered to wade through your posts as they are. Is that snobbery?

since the criticism is well founded,i dont think i can blame your criticism,i was educated in black country ,west mids, where some of the poorest performing schools in england are,i managed to get gcse grade 1,s in maths ,physics ,biology, and chemistry,so not entirly thick.i am proud of being black country even if many of us are bad at english,as my parents were brought up honest, and passed on same values.i could never be branded a snob, but i,ve been called a racist, because i admitted i had moved to sandwich, kent, 8 years ago to get my children a education in a mainly white grammar school,as opposed(or apposed,i think either word can be used in this context, but its this kind of example that made me hate english at about the age of seven and being stuborn ,i was never the english teachers pet, lol) to sending them to the 70% black secondry school i went to.i dont think its a crime to make choices for your kids future ,and being honest about why a schools performance has fallen to new lows.
Skip to the present ,kids are doing well, non whites in thier school are doing equally well and if you met them blindfold would not know thier colour, they have no attitude that is noticable.which only goes to show its not a colour problem as much as a community issue. But moving to sandwich has not turned any of my family into snob,s thank god.
And on that note snobbery is judging people, and its gods job to judge, as i was taught at school.i see snobbery as two of the deadly sins combined.pride and vanity.

Why did you make it a colour problem then? You identified the problem with your school as being that it was 70% black, whereas you could have just said it was a rough / disadvantaged school. I don't think there's anything wrong with moving to posher areas to get your kids a better education, but why make race the main issue as to why your local school was underperforming?

Many people blame Clarkson for the demise of the British car industry. It was more a case of him pointing out that the products were dire and that you could get a better car for the same money. The Rover 75 was a fine car and got good reviews as a result, unimaginative parts bin specials like the Marina got panned and rightly so.
