NONSENSE

Of course Pentax owners are snobs, why do you think most of us bought Pentax instead of Samsung

I will confess I have lately started eyeballing Canonistas and quietly mumbling "more features, less cost" under my breath as a kind of mantra, before sidling away, grinning. Round here, they're usually foreign tourists anyway, so wouldn't understand a word I was saying even if they were sharp enough to catch what I was saying.

And I will also confess that every time I see a fellow Pentaxian (again usually a foreign tourist) I will take a couple of candid shots for my library. They are rarer than three-legged swans, round here, it seems!

If that all conspires to make me a snob, then so be it. Guilty as charged!

I didn't see many other cameras out yesterday in the drizzle. My K-7 over my shoulder with the WR kit lens on showed no fear as we leant over the side of the boat.

Interesting thread....

Owning a Nikon D3, you seem to get elevated into the arena where the camera is a tool of the highest quality, same applies to Canon EOS 1D - the owners are far too busy to look down on the rest....

Equally - something that is galling for D3 and D700 owners is compact owners with higher mega-pixels boasting how 'better' their cameras are because they have more than 12MP. When you see the results from the D3 they are sublime.

Funnily enough, on my flight from Reykjavik the fellow passengers in my row and I were discussing cameras and they were surprised I went to Iceland with the K20D rather than the D3 (both were 5DII owners) - to which I remarked the K20D was lighter and in my opinion more pleasurable to use (the results vindicated the decision)....

Back to snobbery.. I guess us Pentaxians are not snobs but satisfyingly smug, like Saab owners, we know things owners of other brands don't. Sony owners seem to be embarrassed by their Fischer-Price carbuncles - which is why you see Pentax deserters looking at 12MP D700s and not 24MP Alphas...

Worst crowd has to be the owners of APS-C Canon and Nikon for snobbery - Canon owners for the fact they think absolute resolution is the key and Nikon owners thinking they have bought something special (esp when you see adverts), THEIR D5000 is no D3

Weirdly, I'd had a similar thought. Saab usually get ignored by the mainstream motoring press in their mad rush to give wonderful reviews to anything German, but they make cars that go and handle superbly and they seem to have managed to become the premium brand for people who don't want to follow the herd. The 9-3 TiD in particular has a split personality which swaps between big lazy cat, Concorde, and insane tyre-shredding monster depending on when you prod the right hand pedal!

It's especially good at winding up mid range BMWs and Audis. See, they can't quite shake it off...

So in camera terms that's the fact that all current Pentax bodies have shake reduction, can use any K mount lens, and take standard SD cards/AA batteries. Features which other brands seem unable or unwilling to match, and at least one of which will enable them to comfortably beat comparably priced CaNikSon products.

Maybe you should look at the K-7 spec. While you try to put AA batteries in it, I'll have fun taking pictures with it.

I like the analogy of car makes, as a couple of years ago I said a similar thing on another forum.

BMW = Canon. Arrogant, wanting to take over the world.
Mercedes = Nikon, went through a lean patch where products were not so good, but back. Still big and has an air of "superiority"
Jaguar = Pentax. A lot smaller than the other two, had difficulties in the past, but capable enough to scare the bejesus out of the other two. Gains respect when you see one. Now seriously good products at a reasonable price (or were)
And now we can have another
Audi = Sony. Owned by a multinational (VW = Sony electronics) so massive, putting out products to cover as many price points but so similar, muscling in on the established brands.

Oi! I had a BMW up until a few weeks ago

I got fed up of driving with my a**e touching the road and been unable to get in and out of it with any dignity I now have a Nissan Qashqai which is better suited to my advancing years and knackered joints (and it has a lot more toys)

When I met my other half I had a Lexus. Whilst we were dating I had a Jaguar and a Mercedes SL.

Now we're together she has an Audi A6 and I'm driving a people carrier! I think I'm having my mid-life crisis in reverse.

Lexus does not exist in Japan, it's a Toyota luxury car badged up for the western market.

PS. A Ford is a Ford, whether a Fiesta or a Mustang, Even the Jaguar is part of Ford now!

So long live Detroit Heavy Metal, and even Jamie Oliver's wife drives a Mustang!

A Pentax fan since Program A and Super A, and MZ7 days, now happy with my K20D.

Kindest regards,

Peter.

You forgot the grip, so yes it does take AA batteries but not as main powersuply but that wasn't said

Yes, Lexus does exist in Japan.... seen them

Jaguar has ceased to be part of Ford since quite recently.... Owners of Tata Nanos and City Rovers (made by Tata Motors of India) can be satisfied by knowing the company owns Jaguar Land Rover.....Ford is Ford, apart from the US where you get Lincoln and Mercury - no other brands...Even Volvo is Chinese
