Many adults have forgotten what it is like to be a child or teenager, and as a result can be quite shocked when they find out what their offpring's behaviour is really like.

Not in every case obviously, but in a very high number.
Best regards, John

I don't think kids should be on internet forums, not because of language or nudity or anything like that. It's the 'gang up on the person with the unpopular viewpoint' aspect. I suppose you could call it bullying. Every forum I've been on has it's share of it, even this one It's unpleasant enough to be on the receiving end as an adult, I think most kids would have a hard time coping.

Personally (and as a 'lurker' rather than a regular poster) I would prefer not to see profanity in the forum. Not least because it isn't really necessary - there are often better and cleverer ways to say things

It depends on the word used - but then where do you draw the line?

Pity if he doesn't come back.
(However, while I don't mind being accused of many things, being accused of listening to Radio 2 really did get my goat :evil

As my Granny used to say - Swearing just highlights a poor command of the English language and a lack of knowledge of suitable adjectives....

Retired at last - now all that time for photography - you would think: wink:

Head. nail etc. Fair play to you.

It's just poor communication skills.

The phrase "jo, jo" is forbidden in our house, not swearing. I've told my daughter "I don't want to hear that from you" when I've heard her using swearwords in Finnish and in turn, she gets annoyed when she hears me swearing in German. The "jo, jo" is a phrase which translates as "yeah, yeah", i.e "no". The kids who come to our house know it's forbidden and respect that. End of.

I prefer The Now Show's attitude: "Two Ronnies script writers have been drafted in to the Today show, with a grit shoveller..." - cue lots of tongue twisters...

I don't think you could really say Mowog had 'poor communication skills,' though! Quite the reverse.

Mowog, I know that you will not get this post, however you do need to be commended for comments, which, (ALLEDGELY), appear to be very concise.

It does appear that comments are not always accepted as 'acceptable' by a very 'FEW/CLIQUE' and Mannesty appears to make a VERY valid point!!!!

Paul

Anyway .. back to more important things.

Anyone hear the Archers episode where Nigel fell off the roof and died?

Shame to lose a member of the forum. Especially one who has always seemed a decent bloke.

Seemingly being outspoken is the most heinous of crimes.

As I missed the thread that contained the word which caused offence, can someone tell me what it is?

b****r?
f**k?
s**t?

or something a bit more industrial?

I'd be interested to know for the people who are offended by such words, what happens when you hear such language in day to day life (i.e. in the shops, bus queue, strip bar, etc.)? Do you plead with the owner of the establishment to remove the person using the language, or vow never to frequent the place again?

Looking at it on a different level, why should any curse word offend you any more than other words like plinth, laptop or bumble? They are, after all, nothing more but strings of letters.

Or is it a case of assumed offence on behalf of others. You know like "You can't say Christmas, Muslims will be offended", when no Muslim has ever expressed offence at the word.

I must say that despite the appeals to the contrary I have had plenty of dealings with forum users fitting the description provided by Mowog, and if I'm honest, their behaviour offends me more than any word ever will.

Funny old world.
If you can't say something nice about Pentax, you won't say anything at all.

Apparently.

A search will reveal all

Funnily enough it also turns up several other threads where the offending word has been used...

Genius!

I don't even count that as offensive.

Justification: There's at least one "worse" word to describe the same thing!
