I sold a mint condition 40mm pancake a few weeks ago to a buyer in Japan. It went for AU$150 (£63) P&P included.

I am watching an FA* 85mm f/1.4 here in Aust at the moment, 3days left to run and its currently at AU$510 (£215) Posts to Aust only so don't get any ideas

Hmm, the price is rising...well we'll see how high it goes before making anymore moves. The SRS lens at £79+ caraige is still an option.

This is an M pancake lens - not auto anything? I wouldn't fancy it but each to his or her own.

I like the idea of the pancakes but not manual

I want one of these lenses for use with both film and digital cameras, but the one I've been watching is now at £43, I'm not going to go any higher than that. Which one is next, oh bugger it's the SRS one. I'd have liked that to be going on a bit longer, still...

Well a dealer's bought the lens, his listing and profile info on ebay are "private", but he appears to be from the USA. It realy p****s me of when these guys jump in,using sniping tools and hoover up all the good stuff, what chance do other bidders on a tight budget have? when will ebay do something about this?

Can't you use sniping tools?

In an auction a dealer should never be able to outbid a private buyer as he has to resell with a margin unless of course he's a rubbish businessman. And, to be fair, why should the stuff sell within your budget?

That explains why most of the second hand stuff one sees in dealers windows is 10 to 20% more than you can get it on ebay if you are careful/lucky. But, of course, you get the chance to look it over properly etc.

The main thing with ebay is that with most stuff, including the 40mm, there will be another one along next week. Patience is the name of the game.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

When the dealer is a foreign one they tend to sell into their home market at high buy-it-now prices, that way they cover the cost. the dealer who got the lens was VERY specific about packing for delivery to him, maybe he re-uses the packing, anyway as womble says, there will be another along next week.

Final post from me, got a lens on ebay, not the one in the picture (different number!) but OK, now I need to use it.

I used to have one of these but sold it a while back as I rarely used it. The small size was slightly useful (I used to take it with an MX for hillwalking trips) but optically, while ok, it's no star.
