It's a lovely lens, sharp and compact, but it does suffer from barrel distortion. Always use the dedicated lens hood if you have it.
Against the light shots will be the enemy of that scratch, but mostly you should be OK unless it's very bad. The traditional cure is to paint a scratch out with black paint. This stops it relecting light and causing flare.
How easy that would be is a different issue.

The scratches are widespread, but very light. I will try it with a hood, but I doubt the original Asahi Pentax skylight filter it came with will help very much. A pity the owner didn't make more use of the filter! The lens has clearly had a lot of use

A lens hood should stop most of the problems. Be careful using
flash if it bounces back it will cause flare. It would be better
if the scratches were in a diamond pattern that would make the lens
work like a starburst filter.

I can certainly see the barrel distortion in this one.

Any thoughts on these shots? What sort of shooting conditions should I be wary of, or is a bit of scratching nothing to worry about?

Those shots are in-camera jpegs and you can click on the original size to have a good look. I must say that for the money I paid I'm quite pleased! It's not uber-sharp but the contrast is good and the colour seems great. And it's tiny!
