£200 for a lens currently costing £389 at SRS, with £40 of filters, are you having a laugh ??

With the recent Sigma price hike of 40%, the used prices have gone up accordingly. The 10-20 (EOS) I sold three weeks back sold for £330, or £280 after fees/costs were deducted.

Ebay and paypal have become very expensive, thats why we should be doing far more on here. If a forum member sells to a forum member on ebay then its nuts, far better to sell for less on here with no fees than to fund ebay with their crazy 10% fees. As long as the offers are sensible .

If you had clicked on the ebay link you would have seen that it has a starting price of £250, that along with a bit of research beforehand by simply googling the lens would have revealed that it currently sells for over £350 without filters.
If as a forum memeber you are offended then I apologise, but perhaps you could ask yourself if when making an offer is my starting price even realistic and maybe alter the tone of offer from "is £200 any good to you" to language that might not trigger an attitude that you find "nice".

Firstly i did click the ebay link, and thought i would just ask, i dont see anything wrong by asking if £200, is any good for you? followed by "if not! what to end auction and sell to me a forum member". Also the nice attitude comment was constructive as was my question in the original post however you clearly do not want to sell to me as you have still not answered the question however i am sure you will get a seller on ebay thanks anyway

If you don't ask you don't get and I've had the odd good deal by making a low offer to someone who just wanted to get rid. I'm sure there was no intent to offend.£200 for a lens currently costing £389 at SRS, with £40 of filters, are you having a laugh ??

Yet we are not all stupid around here Mike...
unreasonable offers on ebay are treated with this face - but on this forum it usually completely deserves a sarcastic answer.
Foxycce;
(this is not sa critique, just an advice) - I have read many many of your posts; all have disturbed my understanding of the english grammar and spelling; but mostly I have wondered about what you do with all this equipment you always look at, talk about, inquire about, and want to buy. WOuldn't it be better to put this astonishing form of LBA on the side, and take a few photographs instead?
Just a thought.
Regards.

I did PM the seller here, and he wants to pursue with the eBay listing, to get the best price; fair enough.[quote:3496ace15f="DonaldM"]If you had clicked on the ebay link you would have seen that it has a starting price of £250, that along with a bit of research beforehand by simply googling the lens would have revealed that it currently sells for over £350 without filters.

In my own opinion he/nor any other seller will get more than £300 for this lens, seeing as the cheapest price in the UK is £364,
http://www.phonescorporation.com/ukstore/sigma-10-20mm-f-4-5-6-ex-dc-hsm-lens.ht...
I am after one of these, or a Pentax 12-24, but will not be held to ransom with the silly prices some are being sold for second hand.
Even if an item is only a day old, it is still in a used state, and the price should reflect this.
As it currently stands asking prices are too high, with the difference between used and new marginal; end result, the items remain unsold.
International prices seem more attractive, but then the dreaded VAT comes into effect, as I found out earlier this year...
Just my opinions.

Adrian

Crippen Nathan you do seem to have the unhappy knack of choosing a form of words that could be taken to be offensive but I'm pretty sure you don't mean to be. I could think that you're suggesting I'm stupid, and I guess you're being wry suggesting the smiley above as I have yet to see that on eBay.Yet we are not all stupid around here Mike...

Sometimes people do accept low offers because they do simply want to get rid of the equipment they're selling. I know this is true because I have had this happen here and on other forums. Indeed I have done it myself on another forum.
Again I can only suppose you're being a bit of a tease with Foxycce regarding his grammar. Goodness knows we all make slight mistakes now and again but generally the message gets across OK.

"Crippen" ?
The choice of words could have led to much interpretation, but nothing that would suggest that YOU are stupid.
The smiley is to describe all the idiots that buy on ebay without having a clue about what they are doing, and make ridiculous offers just to take the piss - and the consequent roll of the eyes of each non idiotic seller that doesn't have a chance at replying in words to the ridiculous offer.
Sometimes people DO accept low offers. BUT this was very simply not that case, as anyone could have understood from the ebay link - having a starting price of £50 more than the above-mentionned offer.
Thank God we all make mistakes, otherwise one might think that we waste all the time we should dedicate to photographing, correcting our punctuation....
