Shooting in the snow?

You over expose. Why? Because the camera will see all that white and try and compensate for it making the picture too dark.

The auto white balance is pretty accurate but if shooting jpegs use cloudy if it is overcast. My new Kr tends towards the cool side on auto.
Using Av is probably most useful. As said above you may need 1 stop or more exposure compensation as the camera thinks its very bright and will reduce the exposure. Be guided by your review and the histogram. Good luck, I hope you do better than I'm doing. It keeps clouding over and the scenes become very flat.

If I use AV, then I choose the apperture and the camera selects shutter speed? Should I stop up or down, Im presuming a smaller apperture as it will be bright? Surely then the camera will adjust the shutter to compensate for me stopping down?
Sorry, but Im still feeling my way out of auto mode..

You're right, if you change the aperture the shutter speed will compensate. To give less or more exposure, use the Exposure Compensation control. I have this set on the front dial and the aperture adjustment set on the rear dial.
Don't forget to turn back the compensation when it's no longer needed!

I will play it safe, try different settings but make sure I shoot RAW+PEF, that way I might be able to rescue a good shot if I get lucky..
Cheers for the EV tip

You could also try the exposure bracketing facility - depends on the space you have on your memory card!
Like John suggests I have been experimenting with the Exposure Compensation control - I used to be wary of adding more/less than + 0.3 or - 0.3 ev, not any more.

Well said! Wish there was a quick return to 0 facility. Always seems harder to dial back to exactly zero, than to dial in the required EV in the first place

You can also choose what gets reset when you turn the camera off. I have mine set-up to put EV to zero, get rid of bracketing etc.
