Shooting in B&W

Please forgive my inexperience, I have recently bought a Kx and was trying it out and cannot figure out how to shoot in B&W, I cannot find how in the manual and have trawled through the onboard camera menu. My Fuji instant does it, so I am assuming my new SLR should as well. Thanks.

You always shoot in colour.

Making an image black and white can be done in several ways, usually in Photoshop or a similar editing program.

The Pentax cameras will allow you to select an image you have already taken and apply effects, including a black and white option. The modified file is saved as a new file, keeping the original intact.

You can select from several picture modes, including monochrome. You can tweak the effect to your liking, adding sepia toning etc.

So you can (in effect) shoot in black and white. Or as John suggests you can add the effect afterwards, either in camera or photoshop, which gives you more control.

Yes you can shoot in Black and White. Menu, Custom Image, BW.

I have just tried it on my KX.

However, I recommend using the colour settings and converting to mono in your editing software. This way you keep more picture information (detail)in the image.
