Sensor cleaning - again!

No, the Arctic Butterfly uses vibration rather than air to charge the brush. It is expensive to buy, but you don't have to spend any money on compressed air/gas. It just works off a battery. The vibration also acts to clean the brush after use by shaking dust off.
Not 100% perfectly effective every time, but I find it's pretty good at removing loose particles from the sensor. It's also good for focusing screens and prisms - though you have to be careful to keep the brush free from grease from other parts of the camera while you do it.

Actually the Arctic Butterfly spins very quickly to get the bristles charged.
Indeed it isn't cheap but it is worth every cent.
I have the butterfly and a rocket blower which keeps my sensor clean without the need of chemical solvents and/or compressed gas, so it is both easier to use and better for the environment.

Thanks guys. I am a bit suspicious of the arctic butterfly as the spinning is apparently used to eject the dust and charge it so it attracts dust - but that said you can't argue with success and loads of epople recommend them.
My understanding of the copperhill method is that blowing air through the bristle is the same action as spinning the butterfly and they suggest using a rocket blower for this charging process.
I shall study the article refeered to by xbow and then see what I think is the best route. I do resent spending 40 quid on a spinning brush!

There isn't very much of a chance for it to attract dust while taking the few seconds to charge, and the dust is not inclined to come off on the sensor while the brush is charged. Thanks guys. I suppose it does retain more dust after use than is ideal, but no perfect solution has been invented. The Arctic Butterfly seems a reasonable compromise to me.
I have the cheapest and most portable model. It doesn't get absolutely everything off the sensor (see other thread about obsessive testing), but it certainly gets the worst of any loose stuff off quite easily.

I'd be surpised if a rocket blower was powerful enough to get a decent charge, and I suspect you would really have to use a blast of compressed air or gas, but I don't know.My understanding of the copperhill method is that blowing air through the bristle is the same action as spinning the butterfly and they suggest using a rocket blower for this charging process.
In any case you would get the same potential problems with any statically charged brush as you mention, whatever the method of charging.
The point with the AB is that charging is very convenient, and there is no further running cost besides batteries.

The top one seems about right, only £17.95

Or they have kits further down the page with an electric air blower for £29.95

Well, I expect I could use air from my diver's bottle at umpteen bar to charge the brush

Yes, I have a 300 bar 7 litre bottle for the Feinwerkbau & Anschutz but I think the Rocket Blower will do

Interestingly it's clear that not everyone agrees. I suspect I can't use the garage compressor as I guess there's a risk of oil in the line.
I think I'm going to go the non AB route. It cleaerly works but 40 quid.

If you use air from a diver's tank, filled by a competent person, it should be very clean.Interestingly it's clear that not everyone agrees. I suspect I can't use the garage compressor as I guess there's a risk of oil in the line.

Oil on the sensor is one thing, but oil on the lungs when you're too deep to come up quickly is quite another.

TRue I'm sure but this is filled by the local gun shop and used for reinflating my tyres on the land rover so goodness knows what's in it.

Reading up on this subject as it is time for me to clean the sensor. Blowing is not enough - it is just to dirty atm.
So - anyone used eclipse (or similar) products. Could someone post a link to a good supplier???

Anyone seen this
http://shashinki.com/shop/copperhill-sensorsweep-antistatic-sensor-cleaning-brus...
and know anything of it?
He will do the postage at $10 not the advertised rate and quoted me $35 all in.
This does seem to be a rip off as the brush will cost a big 5 quid I expect but it's the right type of brush I suppose and I'd struggle to DIY it with confidence. The potential for getting it wrong is pretty high.
