The shot with the 300 seems lighter than the macro, maybe just different exposures...
as for sharpness both seem equally sharp, but the fall off with the longer lens is apparent. It's expected performance from a telephoto.
Again, just depends on the settings you use.
Enjoy the new toys!

You're not going to do better than the Lester Dine 105mm. I had mine fixed in London last summer and afterwards the tech called me up specially to remark "that's quite a lens!". He'd never worked on one before and had obviously noted the quality of the test shots.
Where the heck did you find a A* 300mm in London? When I was there I found very few Pentax lenses.... none basically.

It was purely by chance. I was walking down Tottenham Court Road and checking some camera straps when I noted some used lenses in a shop, called Kingsley Photographic. They happened to have this lens - one of only 2 Pentax fit lenses they had. There is another shop on the same road which has a lot of Pentax stuff - I intend to mention it in a thread in General Photography later today.

LBA has hit hard and I have acquired 2 excellent lenses(I think) last week:
Lester A Dine 105mm Macro and Pentax SMC A* 300mm F4. I bought the former through this forum while the latter was an impulse buy in London the other day (although I was on the lookout for a similar focal length glass). Because of the weather (and work) I haven't been out much so decided to test the lenses indoors. I took a few shots of these lilies in my living room - all in-camera jpegs. The 2 shots here were both at f8 - the first Lester Dine and the second the SMC A*. The former seems to be much sharper and much more vibrant colours than the latter. What do you think?
Cheers.
