I dont think there was any need to start this discussion, common sense has always applied.

Not all points i believe. All the points you raise Stefan have been discussed before.
Never heard anyone say that we should write down the rules.

Ask yourself this; do you want this to be a Pentax Forum or just "Another" Forum, because thats just what it would become if we allowed the display of images made with other brands, it would just get out of hand.
It doesn't need to get out of hand and the forum doesn't have to change, it all depends on the members.Ask yourself this; do you want this to be a Pentax Forum or just "Another" Forum, because thats just what it would become if we allowed the display of images made with other brands, it would just get out of hand.
There are some members here that also shoot with another brand and i would love to see the photos they shoot with the other brand camera (the person is more important than the brand right?) but i don't intend to follow them also on another forum just to do that.
That's how i see it but i'm here for the company of other Pentax shooter and for photography in general.
I accept that others might be here for other reasons and that's why I don't want the forum to change but making the members slightly more important then Pentax on the forum might not be such a bad thing.
Just look when somebody says here on the forum that they are changing brands on how some members react, it's very disappointing and i wonder if the forum has something to do with it.

I agree that there are occasions when a non Pentax image slips in and is ignored by the moderators, they are simply taking into account the circumstances and the source/nature of the image and applying a little common sense.
I think this one on this page is a prime example link
I'm glad it happen (too bad a photo of a train didn't slip through :wink but if we take the rules black and white it isn't allowed.I agree that there are occasions when a non Pentax image slips in and is ignored by the moderators, they are simply taking into account the circumstances and the source/nature of the image and applying a little common sense.

This a part what John send me yesterday.
-comment removed as private message content not allowed in forum, it is always private-
This has already been discuss several times and from those discussion you read that many would like to see that rule is not taken so black and white when it doesn't concern the galleries on the forum or the competition.

Common sense from who and when are you allowed to post a photo and when not... I dont think there was any need to start this discussion, common sense has always applied.
My latest collision with John, I thought the photo with the train was perfectly acceptable because that was the discussion about and someone else had two months ago placed a photo on the forum about the ICE accident Eschede, Germany as part of joke and that one was allowed...
That's why i want clear rules or at least some indication where the line is.

There is no need for this thread, common sense has always applied and always will.
The rules are clear - Pentax images only, subject to application of common sense.
Also, the picture Stefan is so aggrieved about was actually removed because it wasn't Stefan's picture and the non-Pentax part was secondary to that. Please use links to someone's site, don't lift their images and post them here.

Stefan ,
For goodness sake let go of that bone that's clamped very tightly between your jaws .
No matter what rules are made , from time to time they will be broken .
Let's just use common sense .

Jeez Stefan! your like a dog with a bone, let it go.
Or shall I spell it out.
If you allow posting of non Pentax images it would get out of hand FACT.
All members who already run two systems or have switched brands would start to post, then what happens when they tell their friends or fellow camera club members what a great forum this is? their friends join, nothing in the rules says you have to own a Pentax to join, then they start to post their images, and then theres the people who will happen across the forum by way of searches, they linger and like what they see, and as there is nothing to stop them joining and posting Canon or Nikon images they add theirs too, and so on and so on and so on, before long we are no longer a Pentax forum. SIMPLES!

John Like I said I actually don't want to discuss this here and it's already all done.also, the picture Stefan is so aggrieved about was actually removed because it wasn't Stefan's picture and the non-Pentax part was secondary to that.
And as you know the photo had a license that allowed distribution and copying of the photo so if you're saying now that the photo is actually allowed even though it isn't made with a Pentax i wonder why you didn't say so earlier.

I only said that I think it would be nice if forum members that also have a camera from another brand are allowed to show some of their photos. Nothing like your doomsday scenario

Perhaps I'm explaining it badly, so I'll try again. This forum is called Pentax User and is for Pentax users and Pentax images. Sometimes exceptions occur, but that is at the discretion of Pentax User and common sense.
The picture in question could be linked to if you felt we needed to see it. We don't have time to check the credentials of images, so please don't actually post them here, use a link.
Pictures posted here should be Pentax images because that's what the site and forum are about.
There are other forums that cater for other marques, but best of all ePHOTOzine caters for all of them, and anyone who wants to post their non-Pentax images can happily do it there. Only next door, so to speak.

I can not see any need for rules, guidelines have been established it is a good way for a friendly forum, if you were to have rules,in black and white, will we have forum PCs, that will bar you, fine you or confiscate your camera.
I think the moderator`s do a good job seeing the forum is run in a friendly manner, and it is a Pentax site.

I got the first part but the way you explain it at first looked like there was no exceptions at all.

I wanted some rules or guideline because it seemed the term common sense is used discriminate.I can not see any need for rules, guidelines have been established it is a good way for a friendly forum, if you were to have rules,in black and white, will we have forum PCs, that will bar you, fine you or confiscate your camera.
But that doesn't seem to be the case.

It's about Pentax only images and that we should write down the rules that apply on this forum.
I'm going to quote two comments, one from fatspider (Alan) and one from me so that we can start off from there.
I feel I've just walked into a war zone!
I go away for a couple of days...
Can we move on please. I suggest that, John and Stefan, if you could continue this disagreement could you communicate through the messages system, then we can just get back to inane useless banter here.
Please don't fall out, after all this is a light hearted thread (mostly!).
But i all honestly like I've said against John we should put the guidelines and rules that aren't in the terms of use clearly somewhere on the forum because because the situation how it is now is not clear not even for members that are around for years.
And in the past year there have been several discussion about the Pentax only rule.
Many find it superb that it is applied in the gallery sections and competitions but many also think this rule must be taken lightly in other parts of the forum.
I understand this a Pentax forum but we also have idle chats here and we also talk about photography in general and some leeway for that would be great i think, as long as we would not be comparing Nikons and Canons with each-other...
But this all is not something to discuss here so let it rest for a moment and maybe after the weekend start a little topic to see if we can make some clear black and white guidelines for the forum. Unless someone think that's a bad thing?
btw have you ever looked at the Chinees Pentax forum, they never have brand wars and things like that... hell some members even post photos they have made with their Nikon or Canon and all they get is good replies... Maybe it's we who need to change and be more open?
Are we Pentaxian because we used Pentax or because we hate other brands?
Just to prove my point link
Maybe we should all come together and smoke a joint, i'm sure that will help
All the points you raise Stefan have been discussed before.
