Hmm, see, I would agree were it not for the individual making the claim. Ecomentalists really don't like criticism and will generally try to smear it all as being by the oil industry or similar. There's a lot of money and power at stake on both sides, so trust neither!
It's been going on for years. One model train forum I used to be a member of had an obnoxious German who wouldn't accept that anything could be wrong with the models and would more or less try to blame the unfortunate purchaser when their new €500 toy produced a puff of smoke and refused to run immediately after the box was opened.
In that twit's case, I can't help but think the manufacturer was frantically emailing him and asking him to give up before he alienated their entire customer base (he frequently claimed to have insider connections)!

Perhaps the most disturbing revelation is this. The US Air Force has been tendering for companies to supply it with persona management software, which will perform the following tasks:
a. Create "10 personas per user, replete with background, history, supporting details, and cyber presences that are technically, culturally and geographically consistent … Personas must be able to appear to originate in nearly any part of the world and can interact through conventional online services and social media platforms."
b. Automatically provide its astroturfers with "randomly selected IP addresses through which they can access the internet" (an IP address is the number which identifies someone's computer), and these are to be changed every day, "hiding the existence of the operation". The software should also mix up the astroturfers' web traffic with "traffic from multitudes of users from outside the organisation. This traffic blending provides excellent cover and powerful deniability."
c. Create "static IP addresses" for each persona, enabling different astroturfers "to look like the same person over time". It should also allow "organisations that frequent same site/service often to easily switch IP addresses to look like ordinary users as opposed to one organisation."
This is rather alarming.... there have been a few reasonably convincing copy'n'paste marketeers on here who are promoting links to web stores, or promoting certain brands. But this looks more sophisticated.Perhaps the most disturbing revelation is this. Rather scary that the military is getting involved!
Makes you wonder whether any of this might be used (or be being used?) to 'spike' political foment in certain countries...

I thought the US military were doing our census this year? And copying in the US Gov?

What a lovely bunch of folks to employ! I find the government incredible that they can't find a UK company capable of doing this.
If they (the US gov) are doing this in Pakistan you can bet they are running about parts of the UK gathering information too.
Its too much juicy information for them to let a US company collect without having a quick shufti.

I can't believe that all the time I've been posting to this forum there has only ever been one other person on here! Or am I actually everyone and I've been talking to myself!

I imagine he wished we were. John you are two levels down and we're going down another level. 5 minutes at level 2 are equivalent to 10 years at level three. Get your totem and you'll hear the music before we jump back up the levels. If you perform the inception we can arrange for you to be let back into Kendals.

Watched Inception the other night, I didn't fully understand it. I also still have a bit of a cold.

Why did this make me suspicious of Canon pulling out of photo shows claiming to have to focus on new marketing stuff?
