Ricoh cameras

There isn't a sub-forum for forum questions, so I'll put my question here...

This is the Pentax User forum. OK. Pentax are owned by Ricoh via Ricoh Imaging.
The competitions usually specify pictures must be taken using Ricoh/Pentax cameras or clones.
I assume ALL Pentax cameras are eligible.
What about Rich branded cameras?
All the digital compacts listed on the UK Ricoh-Imaging site are Ricoh models.
Are they eligible? It is, after all, the same company making them.
And if they are, what about older Ricoh models?
I.E. those produced pre-2011, when Ricoh bought Pentax and formed Ricoh-Imaging (though the name change wasn't until 2013).

The reason I ask? I got this recently, very cheap, for my 10MP camera collection:

Full boxed kit (even the USB cable!) for £30.

It pre-dates Ricoh-Imaging. But then again, so does my K10D...

I prefer 'unconventional'.
But I'm willing to compromise and accept 'eccentric'.

People often put photos up taken before the digital age taken on old Pentax film cameras and then copied.
SO. What about old Ricoh 35mm cameras? They used PK fit lenses and possibly even actual Pentax lenses.
I don't have one and never did but I just thought I'd add to Steve's question.
CHEERS Vic.
Born again biker with lots of Pentax bits. Every day I wake up is a good day. I'm so old I don't even buy green bananas.

All Pentax cameras are indeed eligible, as are the various Samsung clones, which were the real reason for mentioning anything other than Pentax. However, there are a number of Ricoh compacts and indeed some of them were once labelled Pentax, such as the WG series.

So I don't think we can exclude the Ricoh compacts, but it isn't really the main drive of the forum. There might even be a Ricoh User forum somewhere, in which case should we expect them to accept the Pentax cameras? I probably wouldn't post Pentax pictures to such a forum, and I probably wouldn't post Ricoh ones here, but I wouldn't be dogmatic about it either. The newer Samsung cameras that have nothing to do with Pentax would definitely be out.

Hope that helps!

I believe the Ricoh Forum is in the process of closing down. In its day it was a very active site, but it seems to have gone quiet in recent years.

Given Ricoh Forum's circumstances and that there is a slight tie up between Pentax and Ricoh (so I've been informed ) couldn't they be offered a sub forum here? We are actually now Ricoh users, are we not?

Unless you have a pre-2011 Pentax (or clone).

In which case, are you a Hoya user?

It all shows just how complicated things that are very simple can get. Pentax User is just that and its purpose and brief are hopefully fairly straightforward!

My K-3 says RICOH on the back...

I have wanted to buy a 35mm film camera for a while to run some B&W film. I was looking for something with a K mount. In Pentax land, all I found in the local shops was a bashed and battered K1000, that did not work. I did find a Ricoh SLR for the cost of a couple of cups of coffee. A couple of new batteries, and it all seems happy. I just need to replace the foam light seals. Ok, the lens is full of fungus, so that has been taken off and replaced with my Pentax 28mm or 50mm A lens. A handful of days ago, I found a cheap K1000. I just need to try some new batteries in the thing, and replace the foam light seals as well. Like Richard, I was thinking that the name on the front of the Ricoh is the same name on the back of my K3.

Regards

Gary
Armed with a K3, some M, A, FA, DA, and star lens. With an eye open for "just one more lens".

All that is true, but I think it's fair to say that the Ricoh film SLR has absolutely nothing to do with Pentax, whereas the K-3 has rather a lot to do with Pentax, as a division of Ricoh now perhaps, but nonetheless of distinct Pentax pedigree.

It's ironic that the brand owner is now a company that was not particularly significant in the days of film.

Always worth remembering we have a Ricoh zone here on this forum:
