Return to Hardcastle Craggs

Posted 21/09/2015 - 20:16 Link
Last week made my first visit to Hardcastle Craggs in West Yorkshire for a year or so. Hadn't been able to get out with my camera for quite a while...

Nicely done - last time I was there - there was very little running water but plenty of bluebells

I agree - excellent stuff. I've found getting the composition right on this blurred water shots is quite tricky as it depends on where the 'white-out' builds up. These are all wonderful compositions IMO

All great but Number 6 would look good on any wall.

8 stunning images, i'm particularly drawn to 5 and 6, the two different aspects of the water in 5 and the focus on the lonely leaf and the moss in 6, just adding that little splash of colour to the grey atmosphere.

Thanks all for your thoughts and comments on these... Was struck by the light this day... Open blue sky on some areas of the river (reflected in 2 and 4), dappled light through the trees the rest of the afternoon leading to some unusual spotlighting (esp 5 and 6)... One multiple exposure (3)... Looking forward to autumn...

I agree with everything above - a great display of so many aspects of photography! Wish I could produce images like these. Not sure I would have thought to use the 55-300 lens, must dig it out and have a go!

Inspiring creative effects that make the most of the lighting and colour tones .... The result is very graphical and I'm sure they would look superb mounted on a white wall in a gallery.

Thanks John and Nigel for your thoughts on these... John, having generally shot pretty wide for the last few years, have been experimenting recently with getting in a fair bit closer and tighter... And found to my surprise I've rather enjoyed it... plenty of scope for abstraction etc... Definite thumbs up from me for the 55-300...
